I don't think Ronda needs to have an iron chin, because the only serious power threats are retired (Carano) or fraudulent (Cyborg). I draw parallels between differences in Men's/Women's basketball and MMA. Women's basketball is more technical, but no dunking and 'above the rim' action.
If Kaufman can't finish, then she will get finished. Defensive grappling will only prolong the inevitable--unless she gets a Johnny Cash tattoo and starts training with Alan Belcher. | You make a good point about power in WMMA, which I think is a big reason why we see so many submission artists at the top and no KO artists besides Cyborg and Carano, who both had massive size advantages in the majority of their fights.
The thing about submission fighters is if they are constantly getting punched in the face, their skills diminish. If Kaufman avoids getting submitted while consistently causing damage, Rousey's offensive ability will be significantly lower. There is always a chance of pulling off the hail mary sub, but in most cases if someone is getting punched in the face for 15 minutes, the last 10 minutes will just be more face punching. |
