If its a close fight sure. | I agree, if Chael dominates the whole fight like he did for 23 minutes of the first event or if Chael KO's him (fat chance I know) - then no.
Split decision or any thing similar - Hell yes.

I think it really depends on how (IF) he loses. Having said that, even if it's a first-round sub (I cant see Chael getting a TKO) then I'd still say Silva should get the rematch. I mean this is a guy who has sat atop the Middleweight divison for years and made everybody (with Chael as the exception) look like they have no say in how the fight will end, and to deny him the rematch would be VERY disrespectful to a guy that has created an aura of invincibility, not as a result of hype, but as a result of his performances.

If a fight has a controversial ending, a case can be made for an immediate rematch.
It doesn't matter if a fighter has been dominant or not, a clean loss is a loss.
If sonnen somehow wins, Anderson can get back in line and earn a title shot like anyone else. Given the relative lack of depth at MW, and the way chael only needed to Bisping to get a rematch, Anderson could easily earn one with just a couple wins over fighters in the 5-10 ranking...even if he were, for instance, to test positive for PED's.
Although it does open the door for the potential for the only thing I'd ever be amused at sonnen saying: if he echoes the bullshit soares spewed when Henderson was promised his rematch and insists Anderson fights a couple more elite-ranked fighters just to resolve the status of contender.

I agree with Rivet but for the record Chael had to beat Stann and Bisping before getting his rematch. I think there are enough people in line that if Silva was to lose cleanly he should have to get back in line. If there is any controversy then I could understand an immediate rematch.

It's one of those things where if it did happen It wouldn't bother me and I could easily see why they would. UFC would certainly milk the trilogy fight and have in at the stadium in brazil.

Hmm, one of the things that holds me back from saying yes immediately, has been the anderson camp's attitude towards offering opponents rematches.. They've been douche's about it for a long time now.

Longest reigning champion in UFC history, most defenses in UFC history, and the most dominant fighter on the planet right now who hasn't had a legitimate loss since NYE 2004.... so yeah, I think he'd deserve an immediate rematch.
