There were a couple last night. These MMA refs need to take notice.
I have no clue why Herb "early stoppage" Dean and Steve Massagati even still have jobs. Josh rosenthaw is the best.
I also dont get how we keep hearing that nelson was the only one to give JDS a good fight. He got lit up the entire fight. Dropped multiple times and landed a few punches that JDS took well... I guess we could say the same about carwin.
Nelson is the only one to land any significant shots on JDS. Compared to Carwin, who landed what, 1 punch? Nelson didn't do very well, but he did better than anyone else.
I don't see the early stoppages either. The refs are protecting the fighters, if a guy is completely buckled and not recovered by the time the GnP starts, I think the ref is incompetent if he doesn't stop it. Better to stop a fight before a guy gets severe blunt trauma to his head then after. I don't want to see any UFC fighters end up like Gary Goodridge.
He was up and walking in less than a second....he didn't look like a guy who had been knocked out. By the time Roy could have jump on him, maybe he could have put him into his guard or half guard and recovered. Thing is, that I've seen guys get dropped like that before and recover while tying up their opponent on the ground. I think Herman was denied that opportunity because of how the knockdown looked. I just hate to see a good fighter lose so much ground over a flash knockdown. I hope he gets another opportunity to fight a top guy.....

"I don't call the fighting in my films 'violent', I call it 'action'. An action film borders between fantasy and reality. If I were to be completely realistic in my films, you would call me a violent, bloody man. I would simply destroy my opponent by tearing his guts out. I wouldn't do it so artistically." ~Bruce Lee

You may want to watch that GIF again. Not quite sure how we can watch the same thing and get two completely different outcomes. He was dropped and fell to his side. Roy punched him in the face once and stopped because the ref stopped him. He would of stayed in that position if the ref didn't stop. Once the ref stopped, Dave started failing around on the ground and roughly 3 seconds later stands up. Dude was out.

That was a good stoppage. I agree we have seen refs let it go a little longer under similar circumstances but that doesnt mean they should have. I would much rather they err on the side of caution.
UFC president Dana White summoned Nelson to his office for a chat after his “embarrassing” loss to Frank Mir at UFC 130. White also recently claimed the 35-year-old hasn’t applied himself and has failed to reach his full potential because of it.
As if that weren’t enough, it appears White and UFC co-owner Lorenzo Fertitta had a stern talk with Nelson heading into Saturday’s pivotal bout with Herman.
Courtesy of a vicious overhand right, Nelson had “Pee Wee” unconscious on the canvas only 51 seconds into their shootout. Just in case his bosses didn’t get the message, Nelson sought them out in the audience to ensure his point was made.
“I don’t know if you noticed after the fight, he came over and pointed at me and yelled some [expletive] at Lorenzo,” White shared during FUEL TV’s post-fight show. “We had a pretty tough conversation with Roy a few weeks ago.
“I think he came out and made a statement and wanted to shove that right up mine and Lorenzo’s asses, and I accept it.”

Dana talks about this in the post event media scrum. It has appeared to me, Dana has never been a fan of Nelson, Nelson has never been a fan of Dana and does the opposite of what he request out of spite. I am a big fan of Nelson so I hope him and Dana can smooth out their differences.

White says the meeting was similar to conversations he’s had about Nelson in private and public, and that his long term goals for him are always the same: take fighting more seriously, get in shape, and make a run at this thing or it may not work out.
“We had a conversation with him. I’ve said it a million times, I’ve said it to him and I’ll say it again in public, I respect him, he’s got an incredible chin, he’s got punching power, and I always talk about him taking his career serious and not training in his garage, and being in really good shape. The guy is tough,” White said after UFC 146 ended.
Nelson has never shied away from being the “every man” when it comes to his physique in MMA. He’ll probably never have six-pack abs or a chiseled frame, but Nelson goes out and fights with as much heart as anybody in the UFC.
White recognizes Nelson’s heart and determination, but just wishes he’d put the same effort he gives in the Octagon to his training and also his appearance, and it’s not just about having a gut.
“When he shows up and asking me why he doesn’t have any sponsors, and how can I help him. I’m not a fan, I don’t even know what that is, I think that thing is beyond a mullet, I don’t know what the hell that is now. It looks like a wig, he’s got the big beard, his beard is grey,” White said describing Nelson’s appearance.
Well, grooming criticisms aside, the best way for Nelson to guarantee his future with the UFC is to go out and win fights and on Saturday night he certainly did that.
Nelson clocked opponent Dave Herman with his signature overhand right that put the former Sengoku fighter out with one punch.
The win marked Nelson’s second in four fights, and after recent struggles, it certainly seemed to reinvigorate the former Ultimate Fighter champion.
Following the knockout, Nelson climbed the Octagon cage and shouted something in the general direction of White and Fertitta. What he said exactly isn’t known, but White gave a pretty good indication of what it was following Saturday night’s event.
“That was Roy Nelson’s (expletive) you to me and Lorenzo,” said White. “Did you see him come over and yell at us after the fight? It was.”
