Cain Velasquez Makes Huge Statement In Win Over Silva
Quote:
In the co-main event, former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez looked on fire as he spoiled Antonio “Big Foot” Silva’s UFC debut with a first round TKO win.
In the first round, Silva threw a kick and immediately was put on his back by Velasquez and Velasquez threw some hard fast strikes. From there Velasquez threw a short elbow that cut Silva open over the bridge of the nose and blood came gushing out. Referee Josh Rosenthal then sent Silva to get his cut checked out by the doctor and he was good to go.
The action restarts and Velasquez gets back to work with punches. Silva made a few attempts to get up but Velasquez started throwing hard punches in Silva’s guard and Silva just couldn’t continue.
Referee Josh Rosenthal stopped the contest at just 3:36 into the first round.
“It’s definitely a step in the right direction,” Velasquez said post-fight. “Daniel Cormier, my teammate fought Silva and he told me some things I could take into my fight.”

man that fight was brutal! that was close to being the most blood ive seen in a fight, ever! everyone at the bar i was at was just grossed out lol. It looked like at one point Silva was gurgling on his own blood?

Cain's speed and intensity is what sets him apart at HW, but JDS is also very fast, one of the few that can keep up with him, if not outwork him... standing anyways.
Cain has great takedowns, but JDS is so damn hard to get down.
We will have to wait and see.
I dont see JDS losing anytime soon at HW. Mir and Cain did land a good amount of kicks, but got overwhelmed standing with JDS and couldnt get him down. AO could have some success if he kept to a strict gameplan of kicking JDS's legs for round after round, but he seems to typically fight very aggressive and in close, and that would play into JDS hand.
