| Despite campaign, White says no to Bonnar and Griffin as 'TUF: Live 2' coaches Despite campaign, White says no to Bonnar and Griffin as 'TUF: Live 2' coaches Quote:
It looks like "The Ultimate Fighter 1" will be Stephan Bonnar's reality-show swan song.
The light-heavyweight veteran recently made a plea to appear on the 16th season of "TUF" alongside two-time opponent Forrest Griffin, but UFC president Dana White isn't keen on the idea.
"I know that's what he wants," White said. "No. Sorry, Stephan."
The upcoming season, which will be dubbed "The Ultimate Fighter: Live 2," debuts this fall on FX.
Bonnar and Griffin served as cast members on "TUF 1" and fought one of the most celebrated matchups in MMA history in the reality-show-tournament finale. Griffin, who would go on to win the light-heavyweight title, earned a unanimous-decision victory and was victorious in a rematch more than a year later.
Since the show, Bonnar (14-7 MMA, 8-6 UFC) has gone 8-6 inside the octagon. After the fighter lost three straight, White said he would always have a place in the UFC.
Bonnar recently told MMAjunkie.com Radio (MMAjunkie.com Radio | MMAjunkie.com) that his career is winding down, and he pitched the idea of another go-around with Griffin as guaranteed entertainment, both in front of the camera and inside the cage. He felt a third match on FOX would be a perfect fit.
"If we got to be coaches, I would be so thankful," he said. "Just bringing the whole thing full circle to FOX, I would really be honored."
White said he hasn't lost any goodwill toward Bonnar. But he said the casting doesn't make sense.
"We usually bring in guys that are champions," he said. "Stephan and Forrest, believe me, you guys know I love Stephan and Forrest. We celebrate Stephan and Forrest every day. But it's not going to happen."

So Mayhem and Bisping are champions? I'd love to see Bonnar and Griffin as coaches and I think they are both in a similar place right now. Let them coach the rumored "comeback 2 season" just put it back in the Wednesday time slot because the Friday one blows.

I guess it makes more sense then Bisping/Mayhem....and Vitor/Wandy. And If both were to retire after Id think this would be pretty fitting.
Im surprised the UFC isnt jumping all over this. They seem to love the idea of former TUF winners/Competitors coaching TUF.
Season 6 was coached by season 4 winner Matt Serra, and season 2 coach Matt Hughes
Season 7 coached by Forrest, TUF 1 winner.
9 With season 3 winner Bisping
10 with season 2 winner Rashad, alongside Rampage who already did 7.
11 with season 1 coach Chuck alonside season 3 Coach Tito. Until Tito was replaced by season 2 coach Franklin.
And 12 had GSP alongside season 1 competitor(not even finalist) Koscheck.
Jesus christ I never realized how much the UFC recycled their TUF coaches. Looking at all of this just makes me want to see newer fresher TUF coaches.

I am suitably outraged.

Apparently Dana really isn't very concerned with the ratings of TUF. There is no way he will scrape up anything as entertaining as Bonnar and Griffin.
