Default BJ Penn ‘Warming Up’ to a UFC Return

Quote:
“I’m kind of warming up to the idea a little,” Penn told Jay Glazer on a recent edition of UFC Tonight.

“I haven’t really made up my mind either way.”

The one thing he was definite about was that a return to fighting isn’t in his immediate future. “No time table. It ain’t gonna be any time in the next couple months, that’s for sure.”

Josh Koscheck recently took to Twitter, saying that he had been offered a fight against Penn, but nothing ever came of it. Penn retorted on his Twitter account that he wasn’t coming back “anytime soon,” sticking to the line he toed on UFC Tonight.

Prior to the Koscheck speculation, UFC president Dana White confirmed a fight had been in the works to have Penn challenge Strikeforce champion Gilbert Melendez, but he turned that down, as well.

So if he’s “warming up” to the idea of a return, what would it take to get Penn back in the Octagon?

“I don’t want any freebie fights,” he stated. “I would like to put together a fight that makes sense, one, for everybody. And number two, a big fight that people would be interested in and they want to watch.”

Just who that might be, Penn fell short of answering, although he sounded as if he was leaning towards lightweight as his division of choice if he were to return.

Glazer kept pressing Penn for a definitive answer, but all he got was a definite “maybe.”

Penn was a monster at lw.. The only person to put a dent in that was edgar. I'm not saying Penn would beat all of them, but they would all be amazing and competitive fights. It's always been the same story with Penn at ww.. He starts off looking amazing but tires out fast. At lw, facing guys his own size, he has shown he can take fights to the 5th round and still have enough energy to finish them.

If at WW, whoever doesn't get the WW shot between Ellenberger, Kampmann & Hendricks or Rory MacDonald.

If at LW, Melendez would be great, if not him Jim Miller would be one helluva fun fight.

I say was because he left the division.. He only looked bad in his second edgar fight.. 1 fight.. If you look at diaz and pettis they have both had a few horrible fights.

He hasn't fought at lw since 2010.. How else would you like us to base the way BJ preforms at lw, if not by his actual performances?

BJ at his best at LW, was an all time great. Even the best now would have a very hard time with him, if not lose.

Im sure frankie could beat him up again(outpoint him doing minimal damage). But im not sold on Nate beating him. BJ took the first round from Nick, and while Nate's boxing is getting a lot better, BJ is still a handful. He also had very odd facial expressions during the pre fight media he did, which made me believe something was up.

Depends on BJs gas tank I guess but I see Nate winning the same way as Nick.
