| Zahabi: MacDonald will wait for GSP to retire for title shot The Fight Nerd | Firas Zahabi says MacDonald Won’t Fight for the Title Until GSP Retires or Moves Quote:
“Georges is the champion of [MacDonald's] weight class,” Zahabi told The Fight Nerd.com. “They’re teammates and they won’t fight each other. We’re going to have to wait until Georges retires. I don’t think that’s going to be soon…. Also, one of them could change weight classes. That could also solve the problem.
Zahabi has hinted in the past that he thinks the welterweight champion could make 155 pounds. But, with MacDonald still only 22 years old with a lot of room to grow, title contention is not the top thought in the trainer’s mind.
“I’m not worried about the title right now,” Zahabi added. “I’m just worried about making sure Rory keeps winning. You know, making sure he’s on the right side of the judge’s decision, the knockout or submission.”

I think GSP could make 155 it would suck, but he could do it. I've seen crazier weight cuts.

Still, GSP's "walking around" is a lot closer to his fight weight then most other guys since he stays very lean between camps.
GSP has gained a lot of weight before his injuries because he started the Olympic style weight lifting, he could probably lose 10 lbs just from cutting out the weight training.
Anyways, I personally have no interest in dominant champs moving down in weight.

he's so lean as is, i dont see where the excess weight would come off from.
Urijah faber was on the rogan podcast this week and he mentioned something i had never really thought of. He talked about how bigger guys like lesner cutting to 265 is easier for him because he has so much mass that loosing 20lbs is small percentage of his overall weight. guys like that actually have the extra weight, and cutting 10% of their size in a day isnt that hard on their bodies.
george loosing 30-40 pounds on his frame seems crazy to me. maybe with the layoff hes lost some size as is, and with a new routine and diet can come down a bit more and still maintain his athletic edge.

Well what I'd GSP looses his return fight against Condit? Will he still wait until he retires?

With the title/title shot comes boat loads of money. I bet Rory wants to make GSP money. Rory is not waiting for any man. In addition, there is no guarantee that Rory will be dominant through out his career. He's on a good streak now, therefore he needs to take advantage of his opportunities.

I know he started in the UFC weighing around 180-185, and he recently bulked up to 195 which was a big part in him injuring himself (too much weight lifting).

At least, for everyone except Anthony Johnson. Quote: |

| Me neither. Georges already boasts a ridiculous size advantage over most WW's, I have absolutely zero interest in seeing him--or Rory--fight at LW.

At least, for everyone except Anthony Johnson. | I just mean that the often quoted "Anderson walks around at 220, GSP walks around at 190, he's 30 lbs heavier!" deal is deceptive since Anderson fattens up considerably between fights while GSP more or less stays at under 8% body fat and is always in great shape.
Like you said, he is in fact a large WW, who on the day of the fight cuts just as much as most other WW's do. The only time he looked to have a strength deficit in a fight at WW was after he tore his groin against Alves; he had trouble holding him down but I think if he didn't suffer that injury mid fight Alves wasn't getting up, and Alves is strong as hell at WW.
