A doctor cannot give a prognosis stating with absolute certainty without having any prior knowledge of the individual, especially in a public setting. I get that he answers fans' questions but his opinion of an individual who is not his patient is only an opinion ---- not fact.

Much like anyone can see a doctor in certain states and say they have back pains and get a medical marijuana license with no questions asked. | Not just for a sore back either.. you can pretend it helps you relax, helps with your ADD, or any one of a list of halfassed excuses to "legally" smoke pot.
I just love reading the people here who rip on chael for using a doctors prescription, and yet will support another fighter for doing the same thing. At least chael applied for an exemption, and didnt try to blame everyone else for his positive test..

wow what a very well written and educated article...and he's wrong. besides testosterone, physical maturity happens due to your thyroid, iGF, hGH and a plethora of other hormones in the body which is HOLISTIC meaning one aspect of the body impacts another and very often low test or epi-T will be counterbalanced by other hormones in the body...a bio 2/sophomore in college knows this...

Once again, my sincerest thanks to bloodyelbow for fucking up the MMA news front by giving this kind of bullshit any credence. Worst news site on the internet, hands down, and of course the story is picked up by sympathetic parasite sites and repeated until it's seen as valid simply by it's presence everywhere.
"Dr. Johnny" has no more endocrinology credentials than the quack GP who testified at sonnen's hearing and prescribed him TRT in the first place.
It's certainly possible that sonnen has had a lifetime of PED abuse, but probably not in the setting that Benjamin is stating: both the NCAA and the Olympic committee test more often and more thoroughly than any current professional sporting organization. If he was abusing to become the "muscled up monster" in college that Benjamin refers to, it's highly probable that he would have been caught.
It's far more likely that cutting weight through adolescence and into adulthood caused developmental problems in his endocrine system, and that he's been producing less-than-optimal levels as he's matured, and turned to TRT to bring them up. It's just as likely, given his lack of general integrity, that he's abused TRT to see an even more significant gain.
But there is an enormous difference between the cause of his problem and the response to the problem.

He never applied for an exemption until after getting busted and was caught in several lies at his hearing.

No need to perform a physical or review the subject's past medical history.

rh | Sadly, most practitioners as well as patients normally desire to treat the symptomatology rather than the actual pathology. Generally, people seek out pills or elixirs for a fix as oppose to making changes to their lifestyles. I digress...

I went to a school with DI wrestling program and was good friends with a few of the wrestlers, including our heavyweight who lost to Brock Lesnar in the NCAA quarter finals. I'll just say this, steroid use is rampant in NCAA wrestling, especially at the heavier weight classes.
I'd be more surprised to learn some of those guys aren't/weren't on 'roids than are on them.

thought kizer confirmed that sonnens manager told him verbally about the trt use but never said it was okay not to document it?
back to the topic, well the speculation may not be completely impossible, but who the hell is Dr Johnny Benjamin, no further reference info besides a name with "dr" in front of it. i googled the name and found a possible hit, guy has a website and claims to be on the Association of Boxing Commissions MMA Medical Advisory Panel, still the peice of journalism is lacking supporting evidence, must be a disciple of kizer
