Sarafian predicts a win via submission of Demian Maia

Off UFC cages since January, when was defeated by Chris Weidman, Demian Maia returns to the UFC stages next Saturday (7th) against Dong Hyun Kim on his debut on the welterweight division. On an interview with TATAME, his training partner Daniel Sarafian seemed pretty confident about his victory.



“I haven’t seen Demian that well trained for a long time. He has evolved a lot for this fight. I believe he will put on a great show”, bets his friend, who was one of the contenders at TUF Brazil, believing on a win via submission. “Maybe he wins with a beautiful submission like he used to do. The expectations are really high”.



Dong Hyun Kim is a Judo expert and has 15 wins out of 18 fights, but has only one win via submission. Sarafian assures that his friend has evolved in all areas, but knows that Jiu-Jitsu is still his strongest weapon.



“He has good Boxing skills but the focus of his training is the ground game”, warns. “He will not have difficulties on taking him down, even the Korean guy being a Judo fighter. I gues she’s going for the submission”.

maia could definitely win this fight, but it'll be about aggression. he could have beaten both munoz (who he arguably beat anyway) and weidman by being slightly more aggressive, and maybe getting a sweep or two. the problem is that kim is a power grappler who has the ability to stay on top, which is obviously what the judges look for.

and maia may be faster than kim on the feet

I agree that Maia is the favorite here.
BTW I hope Sarafian returns soon, IMO he is the real winner of TUF and he will show that by beating Mutante.

kim's last fight showed that he's really working on his standup and i think he's got more natural talent there than people give him credit for. i love maia but i think stun gun will be hard to submit, faster; and maia will start just looking for power shots...
