| NSAC: Nick Diaz's UFC 143 fine officially amounted to $79,500 NSAC: Nick Diaz's UFC 143 fine officially amounted to $79,500 Quote:
A full five months since his loss to Carlos Condit in the UFC 143 main event, Nick Diaz is still a point of discussion.
Initially, after Diaz failed a drug test due to marijuana metabolites, the Nevada State Athletic Commission suspended him one year and fined him 30 percent of his fight purse.
But NSAC Executive Director Keith Kizer today confirmed with MMAjunkie.com the fine was more than the originally reported $60,000.
Diaz (27-8 MMA, 7-5 UFC) who announced his retirement after the fight, was paid a disclosed flat sum of $200,000 for his interim title fight with Condit (28-5 MMA, 5-1 UFC). He lost the bout, which took place Feb. 4 in Las Vegas, via unanimous decision.
A 30 percent fine on his $200,000 purse would've added up to $60,000. But Kizer said the actual fine was $79,500.

Professional athletes shouldn't burn one if they don't want to get burned.

Especially for getting busted for weed. I mean, I could understand if it was a real PED, but weed? That's a little too steep.

Nick is a victim to his own self-destructive tendancies. I feel no empathy for him.

although if i remember correctly he does have a medical marijuana license in California... he just didnt do the correct paperwork needed..
My point being. Yes if you break the rules, you should be punished. What would anything be without rules. Like them or not, you know what you signed up for.
but not separating PED's from recreational drugs is ridiculous... PEDs need to have stricter and more severe consequences... while other drugs should be treated differently...
The AC is part of the government... it is more about them wanting to enforce the law, than about protecting competition... when it comes to drugs like weed.

The fact that marijuana should be legal is irrelevant. If they allow marijuana then they must allow cocaine, meth, heroin, etc. When marijuana becomes legal in the United States, then people can cry foulo about it being on the list. If you have a problem with weed being illegal then fight with your congressman and governor.
Nick Diaz is allowed to use medical marijuana and every other fighter with a prescription is as well if they file the proper papers therefore your argument is invalid.

Dirty government, bending its citizens over and pokin' em in the brown eye... That's what this is.
Government generally disgusts me.
