Chael stays at MW and hopes Anderson Silva retires or goes up to LHW.

Discuss. | Chael walks around between 210-220lbs from every time he is asked his weight that I've noticed, the last one he said 217 to Ariel. 170 is prolly a no go because he has said before he doesnt like to cut alot of weight. However, he actually would fit pretty well into LHW without too much energy loss or being emaciated from a tough cut.
I dont think his striking is at the level it needs to be tho honestly, actually hope he has worked on it ALOT as well as submission defense....

The man is now getting old and will no doubt look to retire at MW while moulding his own legacy of utter dominance in his own division, rather than absolute domination.
Anderson Silva will undoubtedly have legendary status but he will always have his detractors due to the reasons you listed. |
Every great fighter has their share of detractors for most of the reasons you listed. It's a pointless effort worrying about what others think of you.
He is good where he is just like Fedor was good at hw despite both of them fighting a mixture of so-so/top talents.

Fedor walks around at 235 and Anderson walks around at 220. So, they are 15 pounds apart yet they are 2 divisions apart.

He has already stated that lhw belongs to his fellow blackhouse fighters Lyoto/Lil Nog meanwhile mw is open like 7/11.
The permanent move doesn't make sense to him. Even if he did move up to lhw and dominate people would tell him to move up to HW and do the same. Anyways he is fighting past his prime so moving up right now wouldn't be smart.

I have always said Anderson Silva is the closest thing MMA has to RJJ. The Mike Tyson comment by Sonnen was utterly retarded.

| It was meant to sound retarded. Every interview he has made in his media character was meant to sound absurd, that is how he created his own hype. Surely you don't take what he says at face value. Sonnen is successfully pulling off a Kaufmanesque personality to keep his name relevant and in people's mouths. That's the genius of it. Quote:

He dropped down years ago to gain the power advantage that he has in MW today. There is no way he will move back up nor should he. Sonnen can make a decent living being a perpetual top contender at Middleweight. All the bullshit he spews about the belt or nothing is just him hyping himself up. I don't think he will do something that will take him backwards in his career.

At 168 he was like Jon Jones. He has bulked up a lot and I doubt he can make that weight any more at his age, but he could have stayed there for a while(he moved up at age 27, not like he was a kid when he did it).
One thing about LHW is that there are not that many guys who can't make the cut to 185. For example, Evans, Silva, Okami, Machida, Shogun, and Sonnen are all about the same size. It's just that you get these really huge LHW's like Jon Jones as the extreme, but also guys like Griffin and Rampage who make it harder for the guys who don't cut much weight. Quote:

The grappling aspect of MMA really stresses the advantage that guys see in weight. RJJ and Toney winning HW titles is pretty similar to BJ Penn and Bendo moving up to HW and winning titles. It just seems ridiculous in an MMA context.

Shogun is pudgy going into every Fight and can clearly cut down to 185
