BAMMA champion Tom Watson has joined the UFC.
The British middleweight was released from his BAMMA contract and allowed to answer the UFC call-up, with his debut likely to take place on the card in Nottingham this September.
Watson rides a three-fight win streak into the UFC with victories over Alex Reid, Murilo ‘Ninja’ Rua and Jack Marshman.
He also holds victories over John Maguire - of ‘gypsy jiu jitsu’ fame - and the eccentric but talented Matt Horwich.

Kong Watson....he looked great against Marshman he's beaten Ninja but also lost to Jesse Taylor. I don't see him adding a lot to the MW division.

Agreed. I like watching his fights, but this signing isn't going to make too many waves in the MW division, maybe a few exciting fights, but he isn't a top tier guy. Feels like a situation where they signed him up so others(BAMMA, Cage Warriors, Bellator etc) wouldn't have him at their disposal, akin to the Che Mills pick up. I've heard the Gunnar Nelson signing is nearly a sure thing, and if you factor in the Bibiano whiff, they've really been going after alot of solid talents outside the ZUFFA vaccuum.
Now then, signing Mamed Khalidov would be HUGE, IMO a bigger longterm impact than Lombard at MW.

Ah I'm quite glad to hear he has moved to UFC.
He's a pretty decent fighter that needs fresh competition. I'd like to see how he hangs in the UFC and develops.

Beating lesser competition and haveing competitive fights with Santiago? He definitely deserves to be in the UFC, but no way would he beat any of the best guys.
I also think Lombard is overrated, but definitely better than Mamed... Lombard easily beats him head to head...

This is not surprising at all, Watson has looked head and shoulders above the rest of the BAMMA MW division for quite some time (although, surprisingly he had trouble with Alex Reid). He's got crisp stand up, solid ground game and fairly solid wrestling, but I think it's going to be the same old issue with most UK guys at the moment, his wrestling is solid enough against other UK fighters but when he starts taking on high level collegiate wrestlers and Judo players, he's going to have some real problems.

I'm a big fan of Tom "Kong" Watson, I think a fight with Sonnen after he loses to Silva would be epic. Or maybe a Bisping super fight in London? Oh the joy........
