| Cung Le Could Be Headed for UFC’s Debut in China Cung Le Could Be Headed for UFC’s Debut in China | 5thRound.com Quote:
At 40 years of age, middleweight Cung Le (Pictured) most likely won’t be challenging for the title during his UFC career. However, Le will be performing when the Octagon takes its talents to China – that is if UFC president Dana White has anything to say about it.
After collecting his first win in the big leagues with a unanimous decision victory over Patrick Cote at UFC 148, Le was asked what his future plans were. While the decorated kickboxer had R&R on his mind, White had other plans.
“I’m just going to enjoy this win right now and just heal up and see what happens,” Le said at the post-fight press conference.
Le might be a Vietnamese-American who speaks perfectly fine English, White decided to step in and play translator.
“What he meant was, ‘I’m going to go back, get back in the gym, and I’d love to fight in China,’” White semi-jokingly stated. “I’m translating for Cung.”
Like a good employee, Le immediately echoed his boss’ statement.
“I’m going to go back in the gym and get ready for China,” Le responded.
The UFC makes its debut in China on November 10th. That gives Le just over four months to prepare for his return to the Orient.
While a potential opponent wasn’t mentioned, Le was originally slated to face Rich Franklin on Saturday before the former middleweight champ was promoted to headline UFC 147 opposite Wanderlei Silva. Perhaps the organization opts to rebook that shootout.

If he gets franklin it would be a gift for him IMHO. Franklin would fare no better than Cote, I don't think he has the wrestling to match Le, and Le is going to be more patient and measured than he was against Silva. Franklin is a solid fighter, but exceeds and nothing in particular other than being steady.....

Really glad he beat Cote. Not sure if he would beat Franklin though.

I would be down to see Cung vs Ace.
When will Leben be back? That would also be fireworks.

Ah I think from what we saw of Franklin, if the fight got to the 3rd round, he'd have far more in the gas tank than what Le would have left. If it was a close fight, Franklin would pick the 3rd up and would get the decision.

I don't think so necessarily.....I think Le's head movement and footwork kept him out of range. His striking wasn't devastating, but still dangerous. If franklin can't figure him out, his gonna get all kinds of kicked in the gut all night long........

Given the size of the crowd they're likely to draw in China, would it be completely out of the realm of possibility to have Anderson vs. Cung Le just for the glitz and glamour of it all. The hype, the atmosphere, the stellar stand-up skills.... I know Cung isn't even close to the #1 contender, but it may be a really big, electrifying fight to put on while breaking into the new and massive market.
