His comments referred to the way Silva dressed, how he wore his hat and what kind of clothes he wore, etc, and I think they came off as pretty racist. And yes, he did call himself a gangster, but he made it pretty clear that he was a "different" kind of gangster. It came very close to him saying he's the rough neck from the midwest vs. the hip hop gangster from the ghetto.

If you don't buy it, then don't. But I think people nowadays just instantly write off race, which is bullshit since race identity is a huge part of life.

I do think Roaddawg takes it too far, there are bigger racists then Sonnen out there, but he did say some racist shit.

SJ you are smarter than this. You mean to tell me at no point did you think he was mocking Silva? Do you honestly believe he sees himself as a gangster?

For me that is the equivalent of watching a "wigga" cross his hands and yell out "Thug Life". You see similiar mockery like this on film all the time (Malibus Most Wanted). People accept it and find it humorous... (well most people)

The finish was highly unsatisfying to me as well. I just wish Sonnen put up more of a fight or that Anderson was at least able to show off something spectacular. Sonnen trips, falls, gets kneed while sitting down, and then ground and pounded a bit. It is what it is but it just leaves me wanting more. A lot more. I don't see Munoz, Bisping, Lombard or Weidman as legitimate threats to AS, however, there's always that chance I guess...

I just wanted a better fight, especially after two years of waiting for it.

Oh and for roaddawg... It's totally because Sonnen was white. A white, trash talking American that's missing his moustache. All Sonnen fans wanted to see was Anderson Silva getting treated like Rodney King, that's all. It was all a race thing so that we could hopefully come back to the board and smear it in your face for not being white.

So you're the authority on what someone means when they say gangster or thug? He never said he was a rough neck from the midwest, he's from FUCKING OREGON lol.

Anyway, let's get back to the point:

The distaste for Silva has to do with his conduct in the cage which is the complete opposite of what he preaches outside of it.

Some people (mainly Brazilians I'm told) truly despise him for being afro-Brazilian and that was a huge issue when he and Maia fought (the "playboy" comments) but I TRULY believe Americans dislike him less based on race than based on his immense talents and dominance.

Look at it like this, Americans like stories of hard work and perseverence (see Rocky, Ali, etc.) and have a hard time siding with the ultra-talented to the point they despise them (Think about how many people SWEAR they hate Tom Brady or Peyton Manning).

Clearly, because white people are NEVER portrayed as stereotypes in movies made for Afro-American audiences.....even to the point of black guys dressing and acting "white" (Have you seen that absolutely offensive piece of shit White Chicks or anything with Eddie Griffin in it?)

And was he mocking SILVA by saying he was an American gangster? I don't think he was AT ALL. I think it was SCHTICK. If he had been acting that way with guys who ACTUALLY had previous gang affiliation, jail time, or similar backgrounds I would have had to throw the flag.

always respected anderson but rarely root for the guy, im in favor of chael, i dont think of chael as a bad guy, i think he made a few harmless jokes about brazil and then when people went crazy he saw that he had hit the jackpot but he never meant to insult them to the core he has respect for the sport he did pull back after talking to renzo, chael's had a chip on his shoulder since the wec days and paulo filho denying him the chance to be a champion by missing weight, despite what haters say chael does give credit where credit is due, he's not a sore loser, i dont have a problem with the guy using trt, and he didnt keep it a secret in my opinion he just didnt do to the full extent that the nsac wanted but that has been corrected, as for the real estate money laundering white collar crime i dont care the entire industry was doing stupid shit before the american economy shit on itself he was one of a group of individuals who needed to be held responsible and it done, often times in business things like that happen transactions that were not done in accordance wit hthe law have to be voided. lets not forget his political aspirations have been halted but still heres a guy that wanted to be a public servant he certainly wasnt going to get rich doing it

he took the fight to anderson in a way that no other guy did before both standing and on the ground, he is the biggest threat to anderson at 185 and still is, I really dont appreciate people comparing him to the wwe and trying to throw him in there he is a smart and witty fighter as real as it gets. chael is the only guy to step into the octagon with anderson who wasnt afraid to get hit he is anderson's equal, he is the other half of the equation. i hope chael chooses to stay with the ufc though there is talk that he is done fighting he is 35 or so i believe, i said in another thread that he was sort of in the same position as franklin was but i was incorrect chael is in a category all his own yes he lost to anderson twice but he put up a better fight each time than all the other ufc challengers combined, we should all go buy his book.
