| Evans 50/50 on move to middleweight Evans 50/50 on move to middleweight Quote:
Former UFC light heavyweight Rashad Evans told ESPN.com on Thursday that he is giving "serious consideration" to moving to the middleweight division.
"I've been thinking about going down to middleweight lately," Evans said. "I haven't totally made up my mind. It's something I'm going to think about a little more in the coming months and see where my body's at, but I'm definitely giving it serious consideration. The odds of me moving down to 185 are 50-50 or better."
"I'd like to go right into a title fight, but realistically there are other contenders at 185, and to skip over everybody wouldn't be fair. So, it would make sense for me to establish myself in the weight class and have a fight or two, whatever the case may be."
"I'm pretty sure I can make the cut," said Evans, who has a professional mixed martial arts record of 17-2-1, "but I've never been down that low. If I decide to move down, I will do a practice cut first to make sure my body can do it. That will determine whether I can fight at middleweight or not.
"I will also talk to my management team as well to see what they think, whether I should move down to 185. The last thing I want to do is move down and become half the athlete I am at 205.

I would love to see this, but I'd rather see shogun drop to 185 so I can see Silva merc him

I cant picture Rashad's frame at 185. I imagine he would look pretty sickly.

I would love to see Rashad fight Anderson and I also dont see Rashad beating Jones, Hendo, Machida Shogun and maybe even Gustafon. With that being said... should a guy really drop down in weight when he is top 5 in a weight class already? Tough sell in my opinion

I still have no fucking clue why Dana White and the other head honchos of UFC had Silva move up to 205 to fight James Irvin and Forrest Griffin if they never had any intention of moving up full time after he cleaned out the 185 division. Now looking back at it... those two fights only wasted time when we could have seen 2 different guys at 185 get a crack at Silva. Makes no sense if you ask me. I have my conspiracy theory, but I will save that for another time

Tough sell in my opinion | Dropping down a division is a great way to reinvent and revitalize their career. Fewer fights will required to obtain a title shot unless you invent a fallacious grudge.
A. Rashad can be a top 5 LHW that needs to string together wins with the risk of losing a single fight and you losing your status perhaps permanently.
B. You can take a gimme fight at MW while keeping your high salary and most likely win. If you lose attribute it to a terribel cut and move back up to LHW still a top 10 LHW.
Also, it is a great idea because Rashad walks around at 210-ish.

i think the two fights Anderson had at LHW were do more to the fact the MW division was kinda weak at the time, seeing how he fought Cote and Leites in between Griffen and Irvin. He beat the top guys at the time before the move up with Franklin, Marquardt and Henderson. Maybe he could have fought Okami tho
