I dont believe it, but still is highly irrelevant. Silva stopped Sonnen. He fell over and took some shots after AS hit him with that knee.
I doubt it was his strategy to let Sonnen take him down, but they train for all scenarios... He may have wanted Sonnen to expend a lot of energy... similar to F. Shamrock/Tito.

Seems absurd and doesn't fin in any realm of belief. I don't believe for a second that Anderson wanted to be manhandled for any portion of the fight. I do however believe he wanted to draw Sonnen into a boxing match where he would be able to catch him with something. Sonnen proved in the first fight and the first round of the second fight that if it's fought on the ground Sonnen will control the action. Anderson drew Sonnen into the type of fight he wanted in the second round and finished the fight as a result. | Much different in that Silva was hurt early in the 1st fight. Even so, Sonnen was getting tired in the championship rounds.
I don't think he wanted to get taken down, but once he did he made Sonnen work the whole time he was on top and use energy. Then, in the 2nd, he leaned against the cage goading Sonnen in, believing he could defend the takedown against the cage and Sonnen would blow his wad trying to take him down, which is pretty much what happened.

Anyone remember the Travis Lutter fight?
I remember reading that Anderson WANTED to submit Lutter for revenge of submitting a teamate..and he did..Just saying.

I just think Steven Seagal told him to allow the takedown and then be "like water."
That would explain everything.

But letting a guy with the grappling knowledge of Lutter get on top of you... doubt that one highly. Lutter was one arm bar away from making Silva's entire title reign irrelevant. Out of everyone that Silva has faced I think the first round he had against Lutter was probably the worse round he ever had in the UFC.

I'm completely sure Silva's entire gameplan was to let Chael take him down within 8 seconds of the first, and then spend the entire round holding on to Chael praying for a stand up and complaining about shots to the back of his head...I also believe Seagal had seen the future and advised his student that in the second round after you try to pants him, Chael will decide against his will via the Seagal jedi mind trick that he needs to throw a wild, un-aimed spinning back fist/elbow which will land him on his ass. I believe I even heard him say to Anderson, "when this happens grasshopper...Fucking knee him in the face!"
pretty sure that's exactly how it all went down.

I will be the only one who actually thinks that he is not that wrong.
I mean, I do not think that Anderson planned to be absolutely dominated the whole round. But I think that his plan for the first round was more like "See what Sonnen can do, feel him a little bit".
If you notice, Anderson did put zero resistance in that takedown, and things absolutely changed in the 2nd round. Chael tried to take down Anderson, but he defended very well.
I do think that the trainer is exagerating and he is trying to say "Anderson is so amazing, that his game plan was to take punishment in order to make Chael tired", but I think that Anderson wanted to see what Chael can do in the first round.
Despite that Chael had the dominant position the whole round, he could not land anything solid because Anderson was defending very well, and also Anderson was looking very relaxed, it is not that he was thinking "Oh no, not this shit again".

The correct word to replace in the title is "wanted", which should be changed to "anticipated".
