| Tim Boetsch on KOing Hector Lombard and where he stands in the MW Title Hunt Tim Boetsch: 'Knocking out Hector Lombard at UFC 149 proves I'm next in line for a middleweight title shot' - MMAmania.com Quote:
A number of mixed martial arts (MMA) fans (and pundits) think Hector Lombard could be next in line for the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) middleweight title, currently held by the seemingly-invincible Anderson Silva, who recently dispatched Chael Sonnen at UFC 148 earlier this month in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Not Tim Boetsch.
"The Barbarian," who's been tasked with welcoming "Shango" to the Octagon at the UFC 149: "Faber vs. Barao" pay-per-view (PPV) event this Saturday night (July 21, 2012) at the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, thinks otherwise (via MMA Fighting). Quote: |
"Knocking out Hector Lombard proves I'm next in line for a middleweight title shot. Honestly, I don't mind flying under the radar. I like coming into these fights as the underdog. I know Hector's the favorite and that's fine by me. I like surprising people. I think this fight with Hector is gonna streamline my path to the title."
| Since dropping to middleweight in early 2011, Boetsch (15-4) has rattled off three straight wins inside the division. That includes a technical knockout (TKO) win over former 185-pound number one contender Yushin Okami at the UFC 144 event last February in Japan.

If Boetsch KO's Lombard, you can make a strong argument he's the number 1 contender. I wouldn't mind a fight against Weidman for the next shot, guess it depends how long Silva wants between title defenses.

I know that's what soares and the rest of the bottom feeders in Anderson's entourage will clamor for, but I'd set up Boetsch/Anderson for November or December at the latest.
I'd set up Weidman with another bout, on the same card probably Belfort, maybe Bisping to determine what happens next. If Belfort wins, he's still a fight away [maybe Belcher?] but if Chris wins, pencil it in for May or June 2013.

rh | OR,
The UFC can just just matchup Silva vs Belfort for the Brazil card in October. I can see Joe Silva pulling that one outta bag, only because both guys are BIG in Brazil and a rematch between them in front of that crowd will do enormous numbers.
Though I believe every guy (Weidman, Boetch, Lombard, Belcher, Vitor, Bisping) are each 1 more fight away from a title shot.
Currently, everyone except Belcher n Vitor have a fight coming up or have fought just recently. I wouldnt be surprised if they match up Belcher against Vitor (Belcher's agent did claim he has a big name opponent coming up) for the #1 contender and winner fights Silva in the first Brasil card of 2013.

According to Dana at the presser today, we'll know who Anderson is fighting next at the post event press conference Saturday night
He said him and Joe Silva have been discussing things over the last 4 or 5 days, and after the fights play out on Saturaday, he's gonna announce the plans for Anderson's next fight

Lombard will beat Tim.
Open to bets...
He will get the shot... Lets hope Anderson can fight sooner rather than later, he isnt getting any younger...
The next shot after that should go to the Wideman/Belcher winner... If that fight gets made of course.

Alright Page 1 month sig bet? Barbarian is going to man rape Lombard.

Boetsch is going to be a big challenge for Lombard, his size, power, and wrestling will definitely be problems for him.

For me it's kind of a toss up but due to the fact that I am a rather big Boetsch fan and not to huge on Lombard I got Tim in this one. But I really do think Tim's style and strengths give him a good shot at spoiling Hectors entrance to the big stage.
I have no idea if this is true or not but I believe Hector is over looking Tim.

he did finish off a top former title challenger, okami and if he manages to beat Lombard, you can't argue him getting a title shot against silva.
