| Junior dos Santos Asks UFC to Face Alistair Overeem Next Instead of Cain Velasquez Junior dos Santos Asks UFC to Face Alistair Overeem Next Instead of Cain Velasquez Quote:
UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos is throwing a wrinkle into the current title contender picture because he doesn’t want to face Cain Velasquez next.
Now that’s not to say that dos Santos is turning down a fight with Velasquez, or avoiding the fight in any way, shape or form.
No, according to UFC President Dana White it’s because the UFC’s top heavyweight has his eyes set on a slightly bigger target.
Bigger as in 6’5″ former Dream and K-1 Grand Prix champion Alistair Overeem.
White revealed on Saturday night after the UFC on Fox 4 press conference ended that dos Santos has asked to face Overeem next instead of Velasquez because the Dutch striker is ‘a punk’ and he wants to shut him up.

JDS is tired of waiting for the fight announcement as are we all. I bet these talks were being held up beyond these negotiations.
Alistair is down for whatever will get his career back on the positive at this point and would take this fight immediately were it not based in Nevada.

Yeah but the problem is what Cain is going to do? He earned his title shot, it would be disrespectful for him if he does not get it.
And I bet it would not be extremely great for him to face the winner of JDS/Overoid because it would be at least 8 more months of waiting.
I actually think that despite his wishes, JDS will face Cain next. The winner will fight Overoid.
Just for the record, remember that after their first fight, Cigano said that he was scared of fighting Cain because of how good he is.
However IMO Overoid would be even a tougher challenge.

2 vs. 1. Cain and Reem vs. JDS. I take Junior still.

| UFC Says Junior Dos Santos' Next Opponent Still TBD, Alistair Overeem Over Cain Velasquez Seems A Possibility - Bloody Elbow
As said above, both of these fights are big money bouts.
While I don't trust Overeem and would like to see him return with a "good faith" bout so he doesn't piss dirty and taint the title, I'd really much rather see JDS/Overeem.
The puzzle there is what to do with Cain? He's only got one win under his belt since losing the title and he demolished a reallly good HW in Bigfoot. But with Carwin/Nelson tied up and Mir over in SF now fighting Cormier, what do they do with him? Werdum and Barnett are both availible alternatives and I'd really hate to see Cain sit on the sidelines and have too long of a layoff again.
Should be a VERY interesting couple of months....

I can understand where JDS is coming from, and to be honest Cain hasnt earned a title shot, he won the title then lost it, and it wasnt a defeat where he could hold his head high that he battled for 25 mins,he got KTFO. He beat an over-rated Big Foot which I don't think should get you very far,Big Foot almost got ktfo by a LHW,then did get KTFO by a HW that can easily be a LHW.
Give Cain a fight against Barnett, or the winner of DC/Mir.

Cain vs Barnett would be awesome I think. Though I see it being in a similar fashion as Cormier-Barnett
Cain and Cormier will never fight eachother.
