After years of hearing about how he was going to be bringing back the 'old' Vera - and following it up with performances that resembled anything but - it was great to see some glimpses of the guy who was a buzz saw at heavyweight.
I reckon I saw more aggression and fire from Vera in the second round than I have done in his entire run at light heavyweight, including the fights he won.

It was an example that Ali talked about. When you get hit with a hard shot and you go into that grey room. You have two choices, you can keep walking toward the dark, toward rest. Or you can turn back around and start walking toward the light. In other words Vera grabbed his balls and fought back, he became Wandi. Now if he can learn to start a fight with those kinds of combos and move out of the way of right hands, then maybe he can start something interesting.......

"This is for all the haters", Vera said at the press conference, holding up five fingers. "You know which finger is yours".
| Haters? More like "staters" stating exactly what they have seen from Vera in the past which is nothing but him saying he's the best in the world, talking a lot of shit, then showing up and getting beat.
He reminds me of Tito after he beat Bader. One good performance after years of crap performances and all of a sudden "I told you so", only he lost.
I was really impressed by his performance, and I thought it was a great fight as I have thought it would be since I heard about it, but I would expect someone with the amount of free passes he has been given to be a little more humble. Considering many thought he lost to Marshall, he could have very well lost his last 5 fights.

What did you expect him to do lay down and let people piss on him without a response? His reaction was both onpoint and respectable imo.

The most impressive thing for me was that Vera was still throwing hard shots in the later stages of the fight. I think what this fight shows for Vera, is that he does have the potential to fight in the top of the division. He still needs to work on a lot of things though, to be able to win and stay at the top of the division.
I did find Shogun's win over Vera to be more impressive then Machida's win though. Getting a finish in the "championship" rounds after a war like that shows tenacity, and an ability to carry your power with you for the whole fight. Thats not something many fighters can do. However, having said that, Im not disappointed that Lyoto is getting the shot, as I think his overall performance was far superior. He looked on point, completely shut down anything bader had, and put the fight away as soon as he had an opening. To be honest, it didnt even look like Lyoto really worked up a sweat.

Nah Machida's fight was picture perfect. He absorbed minimal damage and knocked Bader out quickly. His win was more dominant and he showed no signs of gassing. Then again we already know his cardio is better than Shoguns anyways.

I would rather have seen Machida vs. Vera.
