also, i wouldn't want a pure grappling match - the fact that bj might throw a kick and then shoot for a takedown to prove something is better for me

No they aren't, they just got a step down in competition. | I think Rory is what BJ should be focused on right now, kid is a monster. It wouldn't make sense, fight or ranking wise for BJ. Plus the way this matchup was put together has marketability for the UFC from the whole BJ/Tristar thing. I want to see Siyar fight another time before just getting a crack at BJ. All three of the guys mentioned in this are animals though, and I wouldnt mind seeing any combination.

| BJ Penn says “no” to Siyar Bahadurzada’s challenge :: TATAME Quote:
Siyar Bahadurzad offered himself as a replacemente for Rory MacDonald against BJ Penn, but the fight won’t happen. The Afghan, who said via Twitter that he’d donate his purse to charity, told TATAME that the “Prodigy” denied his offer.
“BJ said no. I'm disappointed,” Siyar told TATAME via email. “I wanted to fight him with an injury. My right hand is not healed till his fight. I can't punch, but still he doesn't wanna fight haha”.
MacDonald asked the UFC to move his fight to UFC 154, but Penn wanted to fight in Rio instead.

And while it is possible in a strait BJJ match Maia could sub Penn in an MMA it would never happen. BJ tko's/subs Maia 9 out of 10th fights with the 10 being a brutal beatdown of decision victory in favor of BJ.

I'd love to see a BJJ match between Penn and Maia. Sadly, this match would take place on the feet since Penn would not be able to be taken down by Maia unless a freak punch lands. I don't think Maia has enough accuracy with his power punches... or even a punch powerful enough to land a knockdown to be able to get top position on the ground. BJ has a jaw of granite and his chin has not faded one bit.

i agree with most of what's being said here except that i think bj is still the same old warrior who wants to fight you at your game. i really believe he would willingly go to the ground with maia, probably plan for it, just to make the point.

that's quite badass wanting to fight penn and donating fight purse to charity but i really don't think he deserves penn right now. why not make him vs. ellenberger now that kos is out?
