I have a feeling he doesn't have an answer to that. | But Overeem gets a shot from beating Brock, who's previous fight was a loss to Cain? Or his boring fight before that against Werdum? Or his one title defense in almost 3 year before that, for the company, that his association with, got him into the UFC? Or was it because he got popped for high testosterone before his last scheduled fight
Realistically neither have truly "earned" the title shot more than the other, or than anyone else. But they have to give it to someone soon, and those 2 are the closest to the top. The fact that the UFC already promised Cain the title shot, and they should stick to that promise, IMO.

Cain has ripped through everyone he's fought with the exception of JDS. I honestly think that JDS and Cain go 50/50 or damn close in 100 fights. Lets not forget either, he didnt just beat bigfoot, he MAULED him. I dont think I even remember Silva having any offense in that fight.

Cain vs. JDS is the only HW title fight that makes sense now. Does JDS really want to sit out and wait for AO to get back.... If anything you'd think he would want another paycheck and further cement his status as the best HW by beating Cain again...
After that if DC gets by Mir, he is clearly next, and should fight for the title after that. JDS could defend his belt twice before AO got back, if he really wanted to and didnt have any physical problems...
I also predict that Jones will move up to HW sooner than expected by most... While JDS fights AO, the UFC could have a #1 contenders fight between Jones and DC... that would be great. Jones may want a fight at HW before going after JDS. |

A fight also has to be marketable and generate enough fan interest. Plus you can't keep your fighters inactive while they try to figure out who the number 1 contender is.
Using that logic Jon Jones wouldn't have anyone to fight after Henderson. Glover and Gustafason haven't beaten any big names. Griffin is scared of Jon Jones meanwhile everyone else has either lost, haven't looked overly impressive or haven't stringed together enough wins to justify a title shot.

Right now I'd prefer Reem over anyone just for the fireworks it could provide. | Yeah, Cormier is on a better run than Cain right now. I don't think it is a big deal to ask Cain to beat at least one more top UFC heavyweight.
Cain feels he is the number one contender because Dana White said that. The truth is that while Cain is a great fighter, he just beat a guy who was coming off of a loss in Strikeforce.
The Overeem fight should happen to unify the belts. Werdum beat Fedor (pride Lineal Champ....and WAMMA blah blah) and Bigfoot (last Elite XC champ) and then lost to Overeem (Dream and Strikeforce Champ). By that logic, JDS vs.Overeem would determine the first Undisputed HW Champion in the modern MMA era.

What a moronic thing to say he got through him a minute into the fight.

Overeem shouldn't get a title shot directly after a suspension for PED.In my opinion he shouldn't even be allowed to fight, money or not.
But it doesn't matter if he's a known cheater because he has awesome striking and we all know that the most important thing in mma and life in general is entertainment and money.Fuck honor and respect.Who needs em?
This type of thing, coupled with people like Chael Sonnen's mouth getting them in the spotlight...Ruining the sport for me,real big. |

It seems like most champions get an immediate rematch in the UFC these days, so having to win an entire one match seems excessive. If Cain wins then dos Santos fights Overeem for the #1 contender spot. I like Cain in the rematch.

I still think Cain healthy would beat either Reem or JDS.
