| Dana White: Don't like Lyoto Machida title shot? Don't buy PPV, genius Dana White: Don't like Lyoto Machida title shot? Don't buy PPV, genius - MMAmania.com Quote:
With a Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Light Heavyweight title shot on the line, both Lyoto Machida and Mauricio Rua knew they needed to win -- and win impressively -- in their respective bouts at UFC on Fox 4, which took place in Los Angeles, Calif., on Sat., Aug. 4, 2012.
"Shogun" was able to win his fight against Brandon Vera via fourth round technical knockout. It was a grueling win over a very game opponent, but it wasn't enough.
That's because Machida essentially put on a striking clinic against Ryan Bader, dancing, bobbing and weaving, all the while landing punches and kicks whenever he pleased, until he finally got tired of playing with him and put him to sleep.
When the dust had finally settled, UFC President Dana White announced that it was indeed "The Dragon" who would get the next title shot versus the winner of Jon Jones vs. Dan Henderson at UFC 151 in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Sept. 1, 2012.
According to White (who commented on his feelings during an interview with "Inside MMA"), it just came down to who he believes wanted it more: Quote: |
"Everything about Lyoto Machida tells me he wants that title shot worse than 'Shogun' does. He'll fight anybody. You can tell he wants that title shot worse than 'Shogun,' in my opinion, and he looked good tonight. He knocked Bader out convincingly. He didn't take any damage, and he had a good showing against Jones in his last fight."
| Even though "Bones" still has to get through "Hendo" at UFC 151, many are assuming that is a foregone conclusion that the champion will retain his title in on Labor Day weekend.
With that in mind, there are some who stand in opposition of a rematch between Jones and Machida, largely because of how decisively Jones finished him in the last go-round.
As usual, White is unfazed by his critics: Quote: |
"Don't watch it. If you don't like it, don't buy it. It's what everyone said about this card. All these geniuses who have all the answers are judging cards before they happen. you don't judge something until after it happens. to judge it before is completely stupid."
| In regard to the title shot runner-up, "Shogun," Dana said he's still unsure of what will be on deck for him: Quote: |
"I dunno. I'll have to talk to him and his people and find out what he wants next."
| Speaking of titles, White is looking forward to this upcoming weekend's (Aug. 11, 2012) Lightweight Championship bout between Ben Henderson and Frankie Edgar at UFC 150 in Denver, Colorado.
Though he wasn't making any predictions, he sees things going pretty similarly to the first time they fought: Quote: |
"I think the fight is gonna look exactly like the first one. Every Frankie Edgar fight is a war. It's close, except for the last Gray Maynard fight. I think it's gonna be a toe-to-toe war. You can't ever count Frankie Edgar out, and Ben Henderson is big, strong, fast and incredibly well-rounded and talented."

If I owned the company and my President said something along the lines of don't watch I'd seriously think about his long term employment.
Even if Dana doesn't feel like or can't justify it to himself he is still obligated as part of his job to try and convince people the product is worth buying.

Words of frustration from a guy left with no options at MW and LHW...similar to his rants when Koscheck got his rematch at WW.
You guys saying he's telling it like it is, no he isn't. What it REALLY is- Jones has looked incredibly impressive to the point that people are even overlooking one of the all-time greats in Henderson. He's a man without anymore options. Glover and Gustafsson are still too green to hype up, Machida, Shogun, Rashad, and Rampage were handled and no one else is even close.
What I don't PERSONALLY like is the double-talk. On one hand, you always hear "We put on the fights fans want to see." "The fans are the ones who make this sport great." Then, you get shit like this: "You'll take what we give you and if you don't like it, don't buy it." Seems a bit contradictory but point taken....I won't BUY it. I'll watch it at BW3 or stream it because I'M A FAN OF THE SPORT and actually think Machida was onto something before he had his head dislocated.
On the subject of the title shot, I'm still convinced Shogun had ZERO chance to get it anyway.
If he had won decisively, it would have simply read, "Yeah, but it was Vera and he hasn't EVER lived up to his potential."
If Bader had won, "He just beat Lyoto Machida and Rampage back to back, two champs. He's grown A LOT as a fighter and he deserves it."

/\ THIS /\
I mean Dana might as well have said:
"For all of you complaining you don't like Machida getting the title shot can just go fuck yourselves and stream it online for free."
I mean the fact that he is well aware and acknowledges the controversy surrounding both of Machida's title runs just goes to show how hard he is telling us, the fans that he doesn't give a fuck about us.
Screw you Dana, I'll tell at least 10 friends where to stream this PPV event from, and I'll watch this show hoping Machida gets booed from entrance to exit in the first round via KO loss.
I am getting sick of the division title shots getting screwed over by poor match ups.

LOL...That shows how much you know about MMA...Nobody knows how a card will turn out until it is over..Some cards that seem stacked turn out Ho-Hum, and others that you would figure might be lackluster turn out to me barn burners..That, and the UFC puts on enough free cards to make up for the less exciting turn outs...Pay to watch, because the fighters gots to get payed

There has to be a viable and accessible competitor in order for the consumer to exercise his/her endorsement. Otherwise, you are stuck buying crap because there is no other alternative.
It's like the Wal-Mart paradox. Everyone supposedly hates them and universally agree that many of their products are subpar but in MANY markets there is no other viable competition. Therefore, they not only fluorish, they end up indoctrinating the consumers and have them settling for lesser quality, service, and ultimately selection.
