| Cheick Kongo still wants to fight Minotauro Nogueira Cheick Kongo still wants to fight Minotauro Nogueira Quote: Your last fight was not as exciting as you usually do. What went wrong for the fight against Shawn Jordan?
I was really prepared and focused, I had a good but really intense training camp and I injured myself many times but I didn't want to be forced out of the UFC 149. Inside the octagon, I started my Boxing game plan but S. Jordan only wanted to clinch and tried to take me down to control me on the ground . As you know, he is a strong and heavy guy, he pushed me hard against the cage while I was trying my best to defend my positions, and unfortunately for me, some of my wounds woke up there. At the second round, my shoulders was so painful, I thought to myself: "Okay, I know what his game plan is, he is lost, he can't win like this, and It feels like I am broken so let's play smart and safe!" And I started to clinch like him and wrestle to ensure a victory . And I won by unanimous decision. People always expects from us some spectacular performance but MMA is far more than a show, it is a sport, with techniques and rules. At UFC 149, you were supposed to fight Rodrigo Nogueira, but he had to leave due to an injury. You want him to be your next opponent?
I wish he could be my next opponent. Minotauro is a legend. I wish him a good and fast recovery. I can't wait to fight against him.
Brazil hosts another edition of the UFC in October. Could this fight against Big Nog happen then? Would you like to fight him in Rio de Janeiro?
I would love to fight Big Nog and It would be a huge honor for me to fight in Brazil! I've never been there and I know I've got a lot of fans from here. Two of my teachers come from your beautiful country: Mario Sukata and Flavio Peroba .Let make it happen! After this victory at UFC 149, in which position of the queue are you? What are your future plans? You can analyze your category?
I want to reach my goal: be the next heavyweight champion. The heavyweight division is at its best level. It is a strong and tough category, fighters come from so many countries, from old to young, they master a lot of different sports, from BJJ to Tae Kwon do, this is very exciting! The current heavyweight champion is the Brazilian Junior dos Santos. Do you consider him to be the best fighter in the division? Who do you think being able to beat him?
JDS is the champion, undeniably. A really good fighter, with many skills, but I think no one is unbeatable, and it is a great challenge for us to earn his belt. I wish him the best but there are a lot of fighters at his door - I am one of them. | Cheick Kongo still wants to fight Minotauro Nogueira :: TATAME

Kongo should be Jones's first fight at HW. Lets hope Jones moves up sooner than later.
Kongo is about the same height and only gives up 2.5in of reach.
He has also improved his wrestling, takedowns, takedown defense, and clinch game a lot over the years. Add that to his strength, good technical striking and decent power, he would be a good first test for Jones at HW.

love the kongo/jones idea!
though every time i hear about jones at hw, i think about fedor breaking monson's leg... getting kicked by a hw is no joke and jones has a double whammy of tiny legs and very little kickboxing experience to build up toughness.

We've also never seen how Jones reacts to getting "accidentally" kneed in the balls.
