I would say give him Shogun in a true number 1 contenders fight. Make it the main event of a Fox card and 5 rounds.

But if I were him I would wait it out to see what happens in the title fight. For all we know it doesn't last a round and the champion is able to defend right away. Or it could be a 5 round war with the champion needing some time to recover. He should make that decision after Sept 1.

He should fight again before a rematch with Jones. If he happens to lose again in devasting fashion so quickly he's never ever getting a shot at Jones again.

Agreed. Depending on how Hendo/Jones plays out, Machida could get a title shot before the end of the year.

Why Shogun/Machida III hasnt been on the table from the get go is beyond me. Obviously there was no guarantee they would win their last fights and be injury free but they were the heavy favs so the idea of them rubber matching should at LEAST have been floating around . It sells itself and timimg could be great.
