| Jay Hieron rejoins the UFC, meets Jake Ellenberger at UFC 151 Jay Hieron rejoins the UFC, meets Jake Ellenberger at UFC 151 Quote:
Seven years after his most recent trip to the octagon, Jay Hieron (23-5 MMA, 0-2 UFC) is returning to the UFC.
Multiples sources close to the event today told MMAjunkie.com (UFC blog for UFC news, UFC rumors, fighter interviews and event previews/recaps | MMAjunkie.com) that Hieron has agreed to replace injured Josh Koscheck (17-6 MMA, 15-6 UFC) and now will meet fellow welterweight Jake Ellenberger (27-6 MMA, 6-2 UFC) at UFC 151.
Signed bout agreements and a formal announcement are expected shortly.
UFC 151 takes place Sept. 1 at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. The event's main card airs live on pay-per-view while FX and Facebook host preliminary-card fights.
On Tuesday, UFC officials announced Koscheck's withdrawal from the co-main-event fight due to injury. | Jay Hieron rejoins the UFC, meets Jake Ellenberger at UFC 151 | MMAjunkie.com

This is actually a rematch of sorts... Hieron handed Jake his first loss, breaking a 12 fight win streak, back in their IFL days - 2006. Heiron won by unanimous decision.
But I think Jake has progressed much more than Jay and should be able to avenge his loss.

Cool matchup. Its only been a matter of time before Hieron made his UFC return but this will be very interesting to see who can control the pace and especially the grappling aspect.
Ellenberger has progressed leaps and bounds since their first matchup in 06 but Hieron is incredibly good at all facets, so this should be a very close affair. Cardio seems to always be a lynchpin to Ellenberger's success or failure and I hazard that Jay pushes a crazy stiff pace.
I believe Ellenberger's blitz and power could get him the fight, but Hieron is cagey as hell, and I wouldn't be surprised if he takes Ellenberger into deep waters and just rides him like an old Couture clinchwar.

"Ref, make sure that choke is good before you call the fight." That is what I would be saying if I was Jake.
Good deal Heiron is back. This should be a good fight and a good rematch.

this is a really good fight imo. i could easily see jay weathering the storm and taking this, but for the most part, i'm with everyone else and picking ellenberger to win.
