Wagner Prado "still can't see" from damaged eye

Quote:
Wagner Prado made his debut in the Ultimate Fighting Championship last Saturday, against Phil Davis at UFC on Fox 4 in Los Angeles. The fight was interrupted in the first round and declared a ‘no contest’ due to a cut near the right eye of the Brazilian fighter.

Davis’ finger nail touched the eye unintentionally, but it was enough to damage the eye badly enough to stop the fight. And the damage is still being felt.

The Team Nogueira light heavyweight prospect explained what went on when he was attended by the NSAC doctor in the ring.

“The doctor questioned me what I was feeling and I told him that I saw two people. He would not ask me if I wanted to fight. Actually that was not an option of mine. I didn't agree in the time but I see that was the best decision. I still can't see near with my right eye,” he says.

Wagner showed off his indignation when the bout was stopped and wanted to keep fighting.

“I didn't understand at the time. Being there was my lifetime dream. For me, I would perform with only one eye. All I wanted was to look for the knockout. I was feeling good, relaxed, didn't feel any pressure to be debuting at UFC. The cut motivated me even more. I was literally seeing red!” he laughs.

UFC officials have been in touch with Wagner’s management to talk about a potential rematch.

“The UFC got in touch with my agent. They firstly want me to take care of my health, do all the tests and when I am completely released we will see a date to fight him again,” he says.

“It would be at UFC on Fox 5 at first, but who knows? I could fight him in the next UFC in Brazil. It would be a complete dream realized. That gym [HSBC Arena] would into a cauldron.” (This latter comment was, in Portuguese, a play on words with his surname Caldeirao.)
