Ed Soares Named President of Resurrection Fighting Alliance

MMA Manager Ed Soares has been named the new president of Resurrection Fighting Alliance. Soares confirmed the news with MMAFighting.com on Tuesday.

Soares, who manages the likes of Anderson Silva, Lyoto Machida and the Nogueira brothers, will continue to manage his stable of fighters, along with his partner Jorge Guimaraes.

"We still have a management business," Soares said. "This announcement has no bearing on anything.

"I'm not relieving any of my responsibilities as a manager, I'm just taking on a little more responsibility elsewhere."

Soares noted that if a fighter he represents would be courted by RFA in the future Guimaraes will negotiate the deal with the promotion and he will remove himself from the equation.

"I'm really excited to step into another chapter of a my life," Soares said. "I come from a promotional background from running various promotions, and I'm excited to get back in there."

The Nebraska-based RFA has held three events in its short history. According to Soares, the organization's next event will take place in Nevada in October, however, Soares was unable to release any more information about it at this time. Flyweight Sergio Pettis, the younger brother of UFC lightweight Anthony Pettis, is expected to make his promotional debut on that card.

In addition to Pettis, RFA is home to familiar names like Jens Pulver, Gilbert Yvel, Joe Stevenson, Tyson Griffin, Dakota Cochrane and Bubba Jenkins.

The long-time MMA manager said the promotion has some major plans in the works, including a television deal.

Sounds like a big conflict of interest. He manages a group of fighters who not only train together but share a family type bond, and he brings up "if a fighter he represents would be courted by RFA ". I couldn't image some of the bigger names considering a move into another promotion just out of loyalty to Soares unless there was something big on the horizon. But I'd really like to see the look on Dana's face when he heard it.
