UFC champ Jon Jones, manager Malki Kawa, lash back at 'idiot' Chael Sonnen

Today, Jones and his manager lashed back at the often-outspoken Sonnen and suggested the "idiot" should focus on his work as an analyst.

"The things you say about me hold absolutely no weight," Jones wrote on Twitter. "You disrespected Anderson (Silva) and his country but fought like a child.

"If you're going to disrespect me out of nowhere, at least disrespect me to my face like a man. And you call me a punk, I'm more man than you'll ever be."

Sonnen, of course, announced on Tuesday that he is slated to fight Forrest Griffin in December. The return to 205 pounds comes after Sonnen lost twice to middleweight champion Silva. The odds of earning a third fight with "The Spider" in such a short span are long, so Sonnen elected to move up in weight.

And while a win over Griffin likely wouldn't be enough to earn Sonnen a shot at Jones, the longtime veteran made it clear he'd have no problem taking the matchup against the dominant champion.

"I could go up to 205 and I could take Jon Jones' belt the same as I could take his candy on Halloween – a little punk kid, I'd snatch it away all I want," Sonnen said on "UFC Tonight." "But there's something to be said in sportsmanship for earning your shot. And on the 29th of December, I'm going to go through Forrest to do it."

Despite being drawn into the clash, Jones let Sonnen know he wasn't granting any challenge matches to fighters who hadn't earned their way to the belt.

"Dude, you're not worth my time," Jones wrote. "Earn a title shot instead of trying to talk your way into one, and I'll be glad to hurt you."

Never one to back down from a verbal clash, Sonnen continued by referencing Jones' recent high-profile misdemeanor DWI conviction, as well as taking a swipe at the champ's new Nike endorsement deal.

"Boarding plane to Oregon now, home of your corporate wage masters," Sonnen wrote. "Next time you are in town, knock on my door. Don't drive."

Jones laughed off Sonnen's efforts in the final message of the exchange.

"You're an idiot if you think I haven't heard every DUI joke in the book," Jones wrote. "I applaud original ones. That's powerless."

Jones, of course, faces Dan Henderson in the main event of September's UFC 151 event. If everything goes according to plan, Lyoto Machida was promised a fight with the winner. Where, if at all, Sonnen factors into the plans remains to be seen.

Jones' manager, Malki Kawa, said his client will never back away from a fight, but both he and the champion believe Sonnen has some work to do before he starts thinking about facing the champ.

"Right now, we've got Dan Henderson, a fighter that has actually earned the right to compete for a world title and face the best pound-for-pound fighter in the sport," Kawa told MMAjunkie.com (UFC blog for UFC news, UFC rumors, fighter interviews and event previews/recaps | MMAjunkie.com). "Chael might want to stick to his desk job. He seems to be better with his mouth than he is with his fists.

"Jon will fight anyone the UFC puts in front of him, but Chael needs to focus on winning a few fights at 205 pounds before he starts calling out the champ."

So it seems Sonnen will have to wait, at least for now. And while the initial barrage of comments left many wondering if Jones was being manipulated by the crafty Sonnen and potentially overlooking Henderson, the champ made it clear he knows what lies in front of him but doesn't mind engaging in a little verbal tussle to keep the fans happy.

"For everyone who thinks I'm 'falling into Chael's game,' I know exactly what I'm doing," Jones wrote. "Are you not entertained?"

Alot can be said about Chael, but his manhood should not be questioned. Who else would put that much pressure on themselves when they are fighting Anderson Silva?

Chael certainly lacks neither gall nor machismo. But he would get roflstomped by jones. He'd still be a man on his way out of the octagon, just an uglier, slightly humbled one(I hope).

Yeah, I'm shocked this idiot would make a comment like that after being embarrassed this past weekend.

P.S. - I remember Chael was one of the first guys to defend Jones after the DUI.

In never shocked when an agent runs their mouth. Even if they just got punched in it. Which frankly, punching a man in the face is way less professional then talking smack, unless of course you're the fighter. If frankie would have hit Henderson at the post fight it would have been nuts. We would have been fined and probably fired. Why can't jones and his rep fire back at sonnen? Sonnen started talking shit first right? We're they to just not reply?

No one said Jones can't fire back. We just said that Chael will probably win the verbal battle. But now that you mentioned it, it is kinda weak to have your "rep" defend you against another fellow fighter on twitter....

Well, he probably didn't "have him" do it. I imagine he just did it, as it seems to be something he does, hah. But he would certainly lose a verbal bout with chael... To be honest the less I hear about reps and twitter the better.
