I remember Frank Mir catching shit before his second fight with Brock Lesnar for saying something along the lines of " I want to be responsible for the first MMA related death. I want to mane a widow of his wife." I think that was much worse than this and that all blew over after the fight. In a couple months no one will even remember this. Rhonda will be fine. Unless she actually does kill her that is. Then it might hit the fan .
I was going to bring up the Mir thing. He caught a lot of shit for that, and actually had to apologize after Dana talked to him. Personally I don't mind shit talking. It makes me more interested to see whether she can back it up, or if Kaufman ends up derailing that hype train.
The difference between Mir and Rousey is that Mir hoped Brock died and wanted to be the person to do it. Rousey just said she is choking her until the ref stops her or Sarah dies. Franlky I see a big difference between the two statements. The ref should be fully trained to know when someone is awake or not so it is highly unlikely that Sarah will die. All chokes were created for killing not for putting people to sleep. As martial artists they understand the original intent of the move. Sarah better be ready to tap going into the fight or else she might end up unconscious or with a broken bone

In my opinion there is a line that should not be crossed when hyping a fight. Insinuating that you want to kill or will try to kill someone in a fight is crossing that line. Not because I take it seriously but because there are still too many people out there who DO take it seriously and still believe that MMA is human cock fighting. Having these kinds of promo's does not help the image of MMA as a sport.
Maybe once MMA becomes a truly established sport we can shrug this kind of talk as just pre-fight hype. But until then i think fighters should not go that far in hyping a fight. Besides, it's not really all that witty or creative. These guys should take some promo cutting lessons from the WWE guys like Stone Cold, The Rock, Ric Flair, etc.
I agree. It's probably the same reason the UFC refers to an extra round as "sudden victory" instead of "sudden death", which is perfectly acceptable in the NFL. Rhonda doesn't strike me as a very classy woman in the first place.
What really cracks me up is how many people think this is no big deal, yet everyone gets in an uproar every time Jones says something somewhat cocky. I would love to see the shitstorm of wet panties if Jones ever said anything like this.

He doesn't have to, b/c he does it. He holds on to chokes until the ref stops it. That is what Rousey was saying. She will hold on to it until the ref makes her stop. So tap or let the ref stop it. I have no problem with Jones being confident (I think he should be confident(some say cocky))
