Jon Jones Rips Dan Henderson's Use of Testosterone Replacement Therapy

"Well, I'm not sure I should go there now," said Jones. "Basically, I believe that if you're healthy enough to play a sport, you shouldn't take any performance enhancing drugs or anything or testosterone. Fighters make a lot of money in their 20s, they make a lot of money in their 30s, and then when you get in your 40s, unfortunately, you're in your 40s. When you're looking to stay in the game, I don't I think you should take a drug that gives you the strength of a 30-year-old again.

"That's like me saying, oh, I'm not as fast-twitch as I was when I was 20, let me take something to be 20 again. I think things like TRT, and steroids are things should be for the normal people who really need it and not athletes. I think if you're an athlete you're an athlete, you shouldn't use anything for enhancement."

The question came during the closing moments of a nearly hour-long call, and after Jones responded, the debate moderator announced the next question would be the call's last. Unfortunately, the tone-deaf final questioner instead asked Henderson about goings-on at Team Quest, so Henderson didn't get a chance to reply to Jones about TRT.

Fighters make a lot of money in their 20s, they make a lot of money in their 30s, and then when you get in your 40s, unfortunately, you're in your 40s.

That's not the case for guys like Hendo. When he and others were in their 20's, they probably were making $50 and a 6 pack of beer to fight in MMA. You think some guys have shitty pay today, just imagine how little people made back when guys like Hendo were in their 20s

Yeah bones, Henderson had the opportunity to be a millionaire back in 1990 when the UFC was huge and was hosting huge events. This guy needs to shut his mouth and fight, he's got a million more opportunities than any of these guys that were fighting in parking lots in Georgia, Nike wasn't calling these guys. The training and headshots take a toll on the body, and these guys still have bills to pay. He's already making excuses for losing to Henderson.

Isn't it supposed that TRT helps you make normal levels of testosterone for your age?

while i cant stand Jones, what he said is right on the money. For normal people, by all means take it. However if you are an athlete and are doing it to stay competitive, then its wrong. The money thing has nothing to do with anything, i dont think him saying that is an arrogant thing to say at all. The money he is making in his 20's isnt the same as Hendo and alot of other fighters were making sure, but thats by no fault of his, right place right time. The statement can be taken out of context very easily.

Yes but he should not even mention it. It is not Hendo's fault either that he was born 20 years earlier than Jones.

This may sound silly, but has anyone ever seen the episode of King of the Hill where hank is on TRT? If you haven't this might not make sense, but it is relevant to the conversation I swear haha

And if it wasn't for guys like Hendo, guys like Jones wouldn't have a career in this business making the kind of money he is today
