If Silva wants to fight and keep the strap, he's fights who he's told to fight. If he wants to fight Shogun, GSP or whoever at a catch weight or a MW of his personal choosing...lay that belt down and let Belcher and Weidman fight for it. | Or fight GSP in a non title fight and give the MW division time to come up with a true number 1 contender. There are other guys that Weidman could be fighting to make his name more marketable like Rashad Evans, Vitor, Belcher, Bisping.
He needs a win over a big name so the fight between him and Silva is more marketable.

Weidman's contendership is disputed by other fighters in the mw division (Vitor, Bisping,Belcher, Tim). Instead of waiting around doing nothing he should be trying to market himself so he can get a bigger pay off come 2013.
For the record I have Weidman getting toasted by Vitor and losing a UD against Belcher. Bisping I think he would steam roll. Tim is a wildcard.

I think Weidman needs another big win 1st, if anything, just to get his name into the main stream. The fight business is just that, a business. Doesnt matter if the kid has a 30-0 record doesnt mean anyone is going to buy the fight.

I would definitely want to see him fight Silva if he beat Rashad or Vitor. At the very minimum if he won those fights his name would be out there
However even if he did win I would still more likely pay to see Silva headlining up against GSP. That is one of those "what if" opportunities that may never come to fruition if they don't do it next year.
I am also willing to bet that is the only superfight we will ever see Silva in before he retires. Silva "thinks" he is going be around for another 5 years or so but then again so did Tito Ortiz. All bs aside history has shown us that these guys are way too injured proned and they aren't getting any younger.
The gate would be crazy especially from GSP's Canadian support as well as Silva's Brazillian fans. Hell I wouldn't be surprised if it did numbers like Silva Vs Sonnen 2.

Vacate or defend period. | How about Piss and Moan about the contenders, fight them anyway, and prove you were right in the first place? Seems to work for Anderson....maybe Jon Jones was taking lessons?
