| Anderson Silva vs. Georges St-Pierre? 'Probably'... if GSP Beats Carlos Condit Anderson Silva vs. Georges St-Pierre? 'Probably'... if GSP Beats Carlos Condit | MMAWeekly.com Quote:
“I think if we do the fight with (Anderson Silva) and Georges St-Pierre, it would be at a catchweight; probably like 178 (pounds), something like that,” White said on Tuesday’s edition of the Dave & Mahoney show on X107.5 radio in Las Vegas.
“Georges St-Pierre says he does (want the fight),” he added. “He wants to do it, yeah.”
GSP’s desire is definitely a key to making this fight happen. The welterweight champion has often said that he would have to put on permanent weight to move up and challenge Silva at middleweight; that he didn’t want to be one of the guys that bounces back and forth between weight classes.
A catchweight fight, however, could solve that issue, and leave both belts intact.
Silva’s camp has also been quite vocal lately, saying that there isn’t much left for him at middleweight. They have specifically targeted a super fight with St-Pierre.
So it seems the stars are aligning for this fight to possibly happen; at least, more so than ever before.
When asked if this could be St-Pierre’s next fight if he gets past Carlos Condit at UFC 154 in November, White even went so far to answer, “Probably.”
That’s far from definitive, but it’s the closest the UFC kingpin has ever come to saying the fight was going to actually take place.
“He has got to beat Condit first though,” White added, leaving an out. “That’s a tough fight. Georges has been off for over a year, so we’ll see.”

*I know everyone is sick of this talk but here is what Dana had to say about it today.

I could understand this fight a few years ago when GSP pretty much cleared the division.. but guys have emerged to contend for that title. So IF he gets by Condit he's got guys like Nick Diaz, Johny Hendricks, and even Erik Silva.. if Silva can run thru Fitch like he has with pretty much everyone else how can you not involve him in these talks? Don't blame them tho knowing this fight will make bank for the UFC.
*Note: Didn't include Rory knowing him and GSP won't fight.

Since it appears Anderson doesn't have an MW title fight lined up and GSP/Condit is slated for November 17th, I could envision Dana looking to book the "superfight" for July 2013, which he's said he wants to make into an annual Super Bowl-caliber card. If Anderson is in attendence in Montreal for UFC 154 in Montreal, I think we'll hear a post fight, in cage announcement....

Awesome, this is exactly what I suggested in the "Who should Silva fight next" thread. No belt will be on the line but who cares about that. Each guy would still be the best in their division, and having a 2 division champ would be a hell of a log jam for the divisions that guy was champ in, anyways. It's the most fair way possible to have 2 of the top 5 p4p fighters in the world compete against each other, and it's an excellent match up. You have the best mma striker in the world against the best mma wrestler in the world imo. Make it happen, Dana..

I'm really curious to see what GSP's game plan would be. If he can get the fight to the ground, it'd be really interesting. I feel his top game is superior to Chael's, not to mention he has the much better standup and their wrestling should be close.

No they need to do this and do it now while there is still time. There will always be a number 1 contender in either division.

If the old Gsp comes back like he claims he is going to, I would love to see this fight but if he doesn't I could care less a point scorer who doesn't finish against a guy that only counter strikes will make for a boring ass fight.
