Ed Soares, the manager for former UFC light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida, took to UFC Tonight to answer recent remarks made by current UFC 205-pound champion Jon Jones.
During an interview, Jones was asked his take on a possible future rematch with Machida. Late in 2011, “Bones” submitted “The Dragon” with a standing guillotine choke, earning his second successful title defense at the time.
Jones mentioned the low pay-per-view numbers from the bout with Machida as a reason he wasn’t all that interested in a potential second encounter. Soares had these words to say in response.
“(Jones) should know that international PPVs usually draw less than 30-percent of domestic PPVs as far as the numbers are concerned.” The Jones-Machida bout took place in Canada at UFC 140.
Soares continued, saying, “A lot of people are interested in seeing if Lyoto Machida can figure out Jon Jones, and he isn’t the kind of trash talker that Jones is used to so that may be a reason for elevated numbers in his previous fights.”
Machida (18-3) earned the title of No. 1 contender with his recent victory over Ryan Bader. As for Jones (16-1), he is set to tangle with Dan Henderson on September 1 at UFC 151.
“Lyoto Machida is a very respectful fighter who has fought everyone the UFC has asked him to fight,” Soares said, “and that’s why he expected Jon Jones, if he beats Dan Henderson, to fight (Machida) again.”
I wonder if guys intentionally drink or eat things to get bad breath right before a fight. Imagine clinching with a guy whose breath smells like pure shit? I wonder if could be an effective tool.....

It could provide a bit of a momentary distraction I imagine. Rampage used to always say stuff about guys having bad breath. I would think it would be a good way to fuck with your training partners.
