Andrei Arlovski says Tim Sylvia feud over but not ruling out fifth meeting

"First of all, I want to mention that I feel Tim Sylvia is no slouch, and the various punches he delivered in the first round were very strong," Arlovski wrote on his official website. "But I want to make it very clear that in the second round I felt in total control, and regardless of the current decision Tim would have lost this bout."

"I guess his comments about doing the soccer kick on me just got the best of me in this bout, but let me clarify – the first kick I delivered was on his shoulder," Arlovski stated. "After I punched him and he went down like a tree and attempted to start moving away from me, (it) made me think he was still conscious and aware of his surroundings.

"The second kick was in fact to his head, but it came after I noticed this questionable-overall referee running with his hand up from behind me. The reason I say questionable is simply – in my bout alone this guy missed various serious calls (such as) where Tim was grabbing and leveraging the fence to control our clinch in the first round. In the second round, the vicious and clearly intentional head butt was simply ignored by the referee completely."

Following a rest period, Sylvia was declared unfit to continue, and the bout was ruled a no contest. Some fans have since called for the two to link up for a fifth fight, but Arlovski said he doesn't believe there's really anything left to prove.

"I am content with my performance during this bout, specifically testing my so-called 'glass chin' in the first round, delivering leg kicks that ultimately broke Tim's arm and the knock down that made him go down," Arlovski stated. "The kicks obviously caused the decision I received, but by the sound of my fans I hope to be back soon and keep you all excited about what's to come. My team is proud of me, and I feel like I am making the right progress in my MMA career."

But if want the fans really want is ultimate closure on this long-running series, Arlovski said he's not necessarily against another go-round.

"My beef with Tim Sylvia is now behind us both and the outcome of this bout is clear to me, but I'll let you guys decide," Arlovski wrote.

While not always a huge fan favorite, Tim Sylvia has earned the respect of Pat Miletich, one of the greatest trainers in MMA history, who had a unique window onto Sylvia's development.

"I'll tell you what," said Miletich. "Of all guys on the planet who were not physically gifted by God... that guy was great. When Tim was training with us, when he moved out from Maine, I would watch him try to jump rope, and he'd literally almost break down in tears because he couldn't do it.

"I'd look at Hughes and Pulver and those guys and say, 'I just don't have the heart to tell this guy to go back to Maine. He's trying so damned hard.'

"He stuck with it, and ended up winning the heavyweight world title. I would say that Tim is the poster child for over-achievement. If there's anybody out there that doubts themselves, take a look at the belief that Tim Sylvia had in himself. He won a world title, and that's pretty impressive."

ah fuck....I thought they said that they were fighting under old PRIDE rules? Man fuck! I was really happy for Andre. I hope he gets asked to participate in the Bellator or the UFC calls. He needs to come back to the states and fight for a big show again. I like the quote by Pat, I've done basic ju jitsu training and it whipped my ass. I can't imagine how hard it would be for a guy tim's size and age to take up MMA. People tend to take that for granted, but it takes a lot of heart just to train MMA, it's not an easy life. Much respect to Tim for going out there like a warrior and reaching for the stars, most people will never get off the couch let alone try to achieve their dreams.

I didnt see the fight but I can imagine after landing an illegal kick he can card less if he sees tim ever again.

5 would be good. I thought this was their best fight lol. They both did much better than I expected. I would never spend a dime on this lame ass organization though, I mean to have to stop and look and ask the ref for permission to perform a move? WTF is this? Mortal Kombat? "Finish him?"

That rule is indeed a piece of crap. But the org itself is not at all "lame ass". It is pretty good actually. It has potential to be very relevant in 2-3 years from now.

Regardless of the NC, it was great watching AA kick Tim's ass like that. Any shred of hope I had for Tim is gone forever.

It was a good fight. I thought AA took some solid shots. Ending was a bummer. I don't like that rule. If you allow the kicks when the opponent is conscious, but have to wait for the ref to signal it takes to much time (I do understand the reasoning, but he was clearly crawling therefore conscious IMO). Would love to see AA in the UFC. Maybe fight big ben again.
