Urijah Faber Wants to Earn His Way Back to Contender Status; Fight by Year’s End

Urijah Faber Wants to Earn His Way Back to Contender Status; Hopes to Fight by Year's End | MMAWeekly.com

Quote:

UFC 149 didn’t end the way Urijah Faber was hoping it would… with the UFC bantamweight title wrapped around his waist.

Faber lost a unanimous decision to current interim titleholder Reñan Barao, but he’s not one to sit around and wait for things to happen, so he wants to get back in action no later than the end of the year if possible.

Quote:

“You’re going to see Urijah fight probably by the end of the year,” Faber’s manager, Mike Roberts, told MMAWeekly Radio. “He’d like to compete one more time (this year) and earn his way back to the top.”
The best way to earn his way back into title contention would be to face another top bantamweight on one of the cards still being scheduled in December.

Longterm, Faber wants to get another crack at the 135-pound belt, but he also has a standing grudge match with UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz that still needs to be settled at some point.

While there is still interest in that fight from fans and UFC officials, alike, Roberts knows that Faber will have to work hard to get another shot at Cruz.

Quote:

“Now, they’re a ways away from putting that fight together, but Urijah’s going to do his best to get right back to the top,” Roberts said about a potential Faber vs. Cruz trilogy fight.
Many of the top ten bantamweights are currently locked up for fights, but Faber will surely grab the best possible fight to get him back in contention as 2012 ends and 2013 begins.

Old Faber was exciting. Present Faber is boring and tentative.

But but but he doesn't need to earn another shot! He has tied his shoes so just give him the shot against Cruz.

In the real world I'm glad that he feels he has to earn another shot, perhaps he can. I just hope he is forced to earn it instead of being given it.

Yawn.

He's had enough title shots to last him a lifetime

im sayin that if he wins his next fight, he'll call for a title shot

Faber has 32 career fights. Of those 32 fights, 16 fights were either for the title or defending the title. 53% of his fights have been title fights.

Highest ever in MMA?

:confusedsmilie: That is some crazy stats. Shows how much it pays to be marketable in pro mma.

Since I'm literally in STATs class right now, I'll break it down even further.

Fighting for Title - 7 times
Defending Title - 9 times

All title defenses came from 2005-2008.

Only 2 of his fighting for the title fights came in 2005-2008, 1 for the KOTC title and 1 for the WEC title.

4 times from 2009-2012 he fought for the title without winning. That was literally one title shot a year. (09, 10, 11, and 12)

Since 2009, he is 0-4 in title fights. He's also 5-0 in non title bouts/title eliminator fights since 2009.

I feel for you. I HATED the stats classes I had to take. SPSS call lick my coin purse.

The only time I ever cheated in university was in my 300 level stats class lab. The stupid lab was for 3 hours on Friday mornings, the school pub had Thursty Thursdays aka stupid cheap beer specials on Thursday nights. It was there fault I would copy a buddies lab print outs I tell you.

Then again, some people like stats :valh:
