Default ONE FC review results in no-contest result for Mitch Chilson vs. Shannon Wiratchai

ONE FC review results in no-contest result for Mitch Chilson vs. Shannon Wiratchai

Quote:
After an official review by the promotion, ONE FC officials have ruled a recent featherweight contest between Mitch Chilson (3-1) and Shannon Wiratchai (2-0) will be recorded as a no contest.

ONE FC executives today announced the ruling, which stems from a bout at this past weekend's ONE FC 5 event.

The result, which was due to a rule regarding soccer kicks that has since been changed, means Wiratchai will no longer be officially credited with a win, and Chilson will also have a loss removed from his career resume.

"After a thorough review of the match, ONE FC officials have decided that Wiratchai landed an illegal leg kick to a grounded Chilson in round two, and referee Moritaka Oshiro incorrectly stopped the fight as he determined at that point that Chilson could not properly defend himself," an official statement read. "This win for Wiratchai has now been reversed and this fight will now be officially ruled as a no contest."

The Chilson vs. Wiratchai bout wasn't the only bout from this past weekend's ON FC event in the Philippines to come under fire due to the promotion's previously-questionable soccer-kick policy.

The often-confusing "open-attack" rule also resulted in an Andrei Arlovski vs. Tim Sylvia heavyweight contest being declared a no-contest at ONE FC 5.

The open-attack rule allowed soccer kicks to the head of a downed opponent, but only after the referee prompted a fighter that it was OK to do so. At ONE FC 5, Arlovski tagged fellow ex-UFC champ Sylvia with a pair of soccer kicks to force a stoppage, but the referee hadn't declared an open attack, and the bout was ruled a no-contest.

On Monday, the promotion announced it was changing its rules to mirror that of PRIDE, which allowed the blows at any point in time.
