UFC: St-Pierre vs. Silva super fight expected at 180 pounds, in Cowboys Stadium

Quote:
If UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre (22-2 MMA, 16-2 UFC) returns from a 19-month injury layoff and can defeat interim titleholder Carlos Condit (28-5 MMA, 5-1 UFC) during an expected UFC 154 clash in November, one of the biggest fights in UFC history could be up next.

As expected, UFC President Dana White said it'll be against middleweight champion Anderson Silva (32-4 MMA, 15-0 UFC).

It's close enough to reality that White has a weight (180 pounds) and venue (105,000-seat Cowboys Stadium) in mind for the super fight.

"I think we're pretty close," White said Tuesday on FUEL TV's "UFC Tonight." "If Georges St-Pierre beats Condit, that could be the next fight.

"These guys want to fight each other now. If you're a fighter and you've dominated as long as Anderson has, and you've been great as long as Georges has, you finally want to say, 'I want to test myself. I think I can beat this guy.'"

The cross-division super fight was once the biggest fight imaginable. Light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones' quick rise has complicated matters, though few of the involved parties currently seem interested in a Silva vs. Jones fight.

Still, St-Pierre vs. Silva has epic possibilities. While St-Pierre previously said such a fight would require him to move up to the middleweight division permanently – and though Silva has hinted at the possibility of moving down to welterweight – White believes they'd meet on middle ground.

"They'll probably do the fight at 180 (pounds)," he said. "At one point, it sounded like Anderson wanted to go to 170. He wanted to take Georges' welterweight title. Then it was 180, the catch weight, because Georges doesn't want to go to '85. Georges said, 'If I have to make a move to go to '85, I'd have to stay at '85.' So we figured a 180-pound catch weight makes sense.

"If that fight happens, it will probably happen at Dallas' Texas Stadium."

Freddie Roach: I don't think GSP vs. Silva will happen, Silva too big

Quote:
"I've trained both guys, and Anderson is a very talented boxer," said Freddie Roach. "He is very good. He's 6-0 as a pro in Brazil. He has more experience than a lot of the guys in the UFC.

"But the thing is... he's just too big, the size difference, they want Georges to go up in weight and him to come down in weight and so forth and Georges told me he's not comfortable coming up in weight. He likes the weight he's fighting at now, that's where he's best and I don't think this fight is really going to happen because I think that he's too big for him."

" I want to see it (Diaz vs. GSP) becuase they tell he hes the best boxer in MMA, and I don't see it that way... I have a good gameplan to nullify his offense."

I guess somebody better dig a Canadian sized hole. Which I assume would be a normal size hole, but measured using Metric as opposed to a normal measuring system.

I knew this fight was on lock especially when Silva offered to save the PPV. Now all GSP has to do is win his fight. Silva has already went on record and said that he wanted to fight GSP win/lose or draw.

Should be interesting.

Dana does know that 180 isn't meeting in the middle of 170 & 185, right? Right?!?!

There is a weight called 177.5. I promise it's real.

I feel like this fight is not as exciting as it would've been two years ago

both fighters are getting older and there are still contenders in their divisions(especially Gsp) where as in the past they had wiped the division clean and undeserved title shots were given to guys like Dan hardy and demise Maia.

Also vitor was scheduled to fight Anderson instead of Maia and at that point in time had zero fights at middleweight!

...yet they are both still the champion of the world in their respective divisions, so they really can't be getting THAT much older.

I live about 2-3 minutes from Cowboys Stadium. I can see it from the nearest street corner. If this fight happens, I'm pitching a tent somewhere in the arena and waiting for that night to come. Now I'm definitely rooting for GSP to beat Condit.

I'm excited to see GSP move up, not excited at all about what Silva is doing. GSP is the only guy testing himself here. He should start with a 5 - 10 guy if he's serious about the move. Nothing super about this fight. Of course Silva wants GSP whether he wins or not. Silva should be fighting Wiedman. Waiting for this "super fight" is just another way for Silva to avoid his obligation as a champion. This may not cancel a card, but it's not much different that Jones. Wiedman actually earned the shot and he's being fucked over.

If Silva vacated 185 I don't believe GSP could move up and be the champion there right away. As skilled as he is, I believe size and strength are two of his greatest assets and he'd lose those. 185 is loaded with huge guys and GSP isn't. The UFC talks about being this global entity, then they should be above gimmicks at this point.

My personal thought are that the people who truly believe in their heart that this fight should happen can play it out everyday in their mom's basement using their action figures.

lol you do know that the metric system IS the NORMAL measuring system. its the silly Americans who think they are too cool for school and have to be different.

and I know we Canadians are really nice but digging a big hole to burry a Brazilian might be going too far, we will leave that to his people.

I think if they were the same size (not what they are at weigh in or anything like that), I think GSP would beat Silva, but Silva has too much size on GSP and I think as a result will win if this fight happens.

Truth is that GSP is a big WW. Probably walks around at 195. He'd probably wanna put on more muscle and get to 205+ and then drop down to 185.
