Bisping: I'd rather be stopped by Hendo than Cantwell

Michael Bisping tells Brian Stann: I'd rather be stopped by UFC vet Dan Henderson than Steve Cantwel | UFC News | ESPN.co.uk

The Brit's worst defeat still haunts him, with Dan Henderson turning out the lights in spectacular style at UFC 100. It was the type of knockout that forever sticks, making Bisping easy prey for the "weak chin" label.

However, Bisping prefers to point to Stann's own shortcomings, most notably a TKO loss to Steve Cantwell - who rode a five-fight losing streak out of the UFC. Stann also holds losses to Krzysztof Soszynski, Phil Davis and Chael Sonnen, so he has plenty of ammunition heading into the September 22 bout.

"Stann has said he 'wants to test my chin'. A nice line from Captain Cliché there but, you know what, of course he does," Bisping told Yahoo Sports. "He's a big puncher and his only chance of winning this is landing some bombs and knocking me out.

"But I'm going to test his chin, too, and I'm a lot faster and more accurate than he is. To be honest, I have a boatload more strikes available to me and I think Stann's chin is a lot more suspect than mine.

"Getting beat by Dan Henderson, who's knocked out some of the best fighters in the world from welterweight to heavyweight, isn't that disgraceful - especially when you consider Stann was stopped by Steve Cantwell.
"I'm not underestimating this guy - he's one of the best fighters in the division, and I know he's going to look to knock my head off with every shot. But I think I'm half a step-up in all the key skills: striking, submissions and wrestling.

"This is my fight to lose - he can't win the fight unless I make a mistake and give him a chance to. And being so close to a title shot, I'm not going to make mistakes. I'm taking this guy out."

EDIT: Can a mod fix the title, please? *thanks

Too easy. Bisping: "You got stopped by Steve Cantwell?! Pffft. Well I got KTFO by Dan Henderson! Top those bollocks, willy!"

I forget that Stann was stopped by Cantwell. My head would turn inside out if Stann was stopped by Bisping.

I'm not a big Stann fan at all. I was stoked when Cantwell beat him. But Stann has really worked on improving his game since then, he's a much better grappler and he's working angles better and trying to counter and throw combos more.

I don't know that I've seen the same amount of improvement from Bisping. At the time that Stann was WEC champ, Bisping was a better fighter, but Stann has done more to improve his game than Bisping has in the intervening period.

It kind of sucks, because I liked Cantwell more then either of them, and he just became stagnant and didn't improve at all--especially for someone so young and promising--but that's life.

I still think Bisping takes this pretty handily with his peck-and-run style, but I wouldn't be absolutely shocked if Stann manages to catch lightning in a bottle and scores an upset.

Stann has improved but Bisping's overall game is still signifcantly better. I look for it to be a pretty decisive dec. with Mikey making a statement in the process.

Not overtly slagging Bisping here, but what "statement" do you think he'll be making? He's supposed to win this fight. He's the bigger, better fighter with more tools at his disposal.

Bisping's skillset gets an enormous and unreasonable amount of hate based off of his abrasive personality. I think that fact is shining brighter than usual now that he is paired against the well-mannered, Mr.American- as-apple-pie- Brian Stann. So while I agree that the fight fans who can look at a matchup objectivley see this as Mike's to lose, the general population is on a BS bandwagon that's about to get derailed.
EDIT: Brian Stann bandwagon not bullshit bandwagon.

These 2 have 1 thing in common, Chris Leben is their biggest win. MMA math concludes that Brian Stann will win this fight by KO,

Brian Stann is a true American Hero. He may not be the greatest fighter ever, but I certainly respect his service. I think Bisping will win, but if I had the chance to shake one hand in the UFC, it would be Brian Stann.

Word. I'd shake Wanderlei's, but word.
Me thinks you thinks that my description of Stann was a knock on the guy. Not at all mane. Just painting a picture of how, IMO, Stann's skillset is given too much credit based off of him being being GI-Joe. I admire the hell out of his bravery. But similar to the way Bisping's skillset is discredited for him being a dick, Stann's skillset gets more credit (though not quite as intensely) than it should because he is such a wholesome guy. Not the fault of either guy but it happens.

I disagree with the last line. It's how you present yourself. Both fighters were hyped as good to start, Bisping had the UFC hype machine giving him all kinds of kudo's, but his personality showed through, plus his failure to be realistic. Sonnen knows he talks BS but my belief Bisping believes his.
Stann presents himself as a good person and handled his loss's as a respectfull person. Were Bisping choose the other road with his loss's, gifts, and what he reverts to when getting beat. [Rivera]

Many people have been misrepusented by the media or how people percieved them. Some over come it, some choose to keep the image, and some it's just there true self. Bisping to me is the last
