Anderson Silva Would Like To Fight For Six More Years
| Quote:
UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva is 37 years old, but apparently he's not thinking about slowing down or retiring anytime soon. In an interview with Brazilian newspaper Estadao, he thinks he can go for a while longer. Six years longer: Quote: |
"I guess you can see more like six years of fighting. I love what I do. The team that works with me does a fantastic job. I've never had a serious injury that took myself away from competition. So I think I have this a little while longer."

“The biggest is the Bruce Lee fan I am. I especially like the philosophy of it. But I’m also a fan of Muhammad Ali and Roy Jones Jr. are guys for whom I tip my hat, get my black belt. Outside the ring, I would say Michael Jordan, Pele and Ronaldo. People think I say this because of my contract with 9ine, but it is not. It was long before Ronaldo fan… I would like to have known [Bruce Lee] and to have had lessons with him. But not risk a fight with Bruce Lee, no.”
In an interview with Brazilian newspaper, estadao.com.br, UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva talked about his idol Bruce Lee and proclaimed that if alive he would never take on the martial arts legend in a fight.

And if Weidman fights 3 times a year, that's 18 contenders he has to beat for soares to still say he doesn't deserve a fight with Anderson. Man, that's gotta be depressing.

Perhaps Silva will take the path of his idle and find out the hardway. On Weidman (the guy that thinks hes too good to fight Belcher) hopefully he will be made short work of by someone so we can move on to better challenges for Silva.

People should remember that a few years ago, before the Cote fight I think, he said he was going to retire after 6 more fights. 6 more years might be pushing it.
He has done a pretty amazing job of staying injury free throughout his career though. I don't think he's ever had to pull out of a fight in the UFC and he still seems very fast and athletic for a 37 year old. He could probably go for another couple years, but I personally hope he retires while he's still on top and we don't have to go through another Chuck, Tito, or Fedor scenario.

Once that happened and Vitor got moved to fight Jones, Weidman had already been making his case for a #1 contender's fight. Considering DW had him as the #1 contender prior, this just makes sense. He's fighting similarly ranked fighters and continuing towards the title. Weidman hasn't ducked anyone, stop saying things that are clearly and demonstrably false just because you feel a need to defend Silva.
As far as "better challenges?" How about whoever wins from the rankings?? Boetch is well ranked, Weidman is well ranked. They'll fight, a contender will be established. Then you and Silva will cry that whoever it is "isn't worthy." But it doesn't matter, this is a sport and the rankings are what they are.

The odds are that if Silva stays for six more years, he'll leave without the belt. New challengers are always coming and unless he goes on a steady TRT diet, I doubt his body will keep up.
