“Lauzon will come to fight and I like that. I think we’ll have a great scrap,” said Maynard in an interview with the UFC’s website. “If he shows up like I believe he will, it will leave a lot of openings for me to end it early. I’ll take this fight wherever I need it to go in order to get the win.
Maynard Says Win Over Guida Was Nice but He Prefers to Fight
“The Bully” also addressed a recent statement from Lauzon relating to the threat he poses on the mat in relation to Maynard’s history as a high-level wrestler who grinds opponents down.
“He obviously feels he has a big advantage on the ground, but that doesn’t mean I won’t put him on his back. It’s a fight. Anything can happen and winning is the only thing that matters to me. I’m going to be looking to finish this fight at all times,” admitted Maynard. “I don’t really care what he thinks or the game plan he brings. My focus is on me and being the best I can be for the scrap. He’s built up his name; he looked good in his last fight, and this is an opportunity for me to get a win over an opponent with a solid name.”
Maynard’s win over Guida improved his overall record to 11-1-1 with other past victories to his credit like those over Kenny Florian, Roger Huerta, Jim Miller, Nate Diaz, and Frankie Edgar. Comparably, Lauzon is coming off an exciting submission win over Jamie Varner, adding to previous success against Jeremy Stephens, Jens Pulver, and Melvin Guillard.
