Think about this, you're 1 week away from a PPV UFC fight, and you suffer a torn Achilles tendon. Achilles Tendon Injuries (Tear, Rupture) Causes, Symptoms, Treatments Injuries AchillesTendon.com (Please read the next section directly below the one on the top also.)
Would you still be able to properly defend take downs from a great wrestler like Matt Hammil? How about trading punches, and having the leg movement, to skillfully do so?
My point being... Matyushenko is 41, well past his prime in sports terms, and 26-6 in MMA, during his 15 year career. With that many years of experience, and that kind of record, I don't see him as the type to pussy out of a fight, just because he's "hurt".

Back on topic, I think this injury will (effectively) be the end of The Janitor's career. It's not like he had a ton left to begin with, but coming back from a torn achilles at 41-42 years old? Best of luck to him with his recovery.

A torn achilles is possible to recover from but he will not be fighting for at least a year, if he gets surgery immediately.
Retirement would be best.... if he is financially set.
