| Big Nog vs. Dave Herman set for UFC 153 Big Nog vs. Dave Herman set for UFC 153; Sonnen vs. Silva not happening; Edgar out | UFC News | MMA News | Mixed Martial Arts | UFC News | BJPenn | MMA Fight | UFC Fights Quote:
Early rumors that Wanderlei Silva would meet Chael Sonnen in a catchweight fight of 195lbs have been put to rest, as Ariel Helwani reported that Sonnen’s manager has refuted the rumor, and says the bout will not be happening.
It has also been reported that former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar, who was supposed to fight Jose Aldo for the featherweight title in the main event, will no longer be participating at UFC 153.
The one bit of positive news that was announced regarded a newly found co-main event for UFC 153. That fight will feature heavyweights Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (33-7-1 MMA, 4-3 UFC) and Dave “Pee-Wee” Herman (21-4 MMA, 1-2 UFC).

Hmmmm, would've rather bumped up Gonzaga to fight Big Nog, but this is interesting....
Herman has all the raw talent in the world to make himself into an elite level HW, but damn it if he doesn't take his training and preparation seriously enough and I think that Nog is cagey enough to wait for Dave to be too open and light him up.

I do not like Pee Wee at all. I really hope Big Nog submits him.
When was the last time Big Nog sub'd someone? It was Sylvia almost 5 years ago?

Yeah^
It's certainly possible that he submits him, but I think he knows that he is better on the feet and will just come to knock him out lol

Herman IS crazy athletic and throws some wild stuff in the standup. I think I'll take him over Nog if only because I don't believe Nog can take too many shots any more and things like the Schaub fight, where he looked very slow and had very little lateral movement, just give me too much pause....

He got KO'd by Roy in 1 punch and knocked silly by Struve...whereas Nog took some big shots from Schaub and was fine...so even though Nog has been through alot of wars, when you consider the size difference and the punching power advantage Nog has (imo), I still say Hermann is the one who should be worried about getting hit more.
Plus Nog is way better on the ground...and he's fighting in his home country whereas Hermann will have to travel and adjust to the Brazilian time/foods...
The only thing that worries me is Nog coming off that injury and jumping back into training camp maybe a little sooner than he should have...but he did that against Schaub and won by KO...
...so I gotta go with ole' Minotauro on this one...

if he loses (which he likely will), they should throw herman a bone and give him ANOTHER chance. this is the second fight he's taken on short notice against a top heavyweight. hell i think all his fights have been short notice in fact.

If he tries to strike Herman has a good chance to land something crazy. You have to remember he hasn't fought since that brutal arm break so his striking could still be very rusty. If he does try to strike with him like he did Shaub I am going to incredibly nervous the entire time.
Rio de Janeiro is only an hour ahead of the eastern seaboard so unless he train on the west coast the time zone difference won't be an issue at all.

I will believe Hermann has a chance of landing something crazy when I see it. He has not done it to anyone near Nog's level. Your going to have to do more than knock out Einemo or Don Frye before you convince me that your going to knock out Nog...plus, even though Nog's reaction time is a bit slowed, he still has a pretty good chin. The shot he took from Cain would knock pretty much anyone out, and he took some good shots from Scaub and was fine...
...plus, he trains with that one guy...uhh...what's his name? Oh yeah, Junior Dos Santos. He may be a bit rusty but he's coming to fight in his home country of Brazil with bad intentions and I have a great feeling he will will knock Hermann out within 2 rounds

I like Herman but I don't think he'll win this one. I really hope they give him another chance. I'd hate to see him get cut.
