The reason GSP has such success striking is because his opponents are constantly off balance due to the takedown threat. GSP doesn't have to worry about being taken down hardly because his MmA wrestling is so much better than everyone else's. I know that's what MMA is about, I'm just illustrating why his striking looks so good.
If they were to have a fight without takedowns, Thisgo silva would beat GSP, however once again that's not MMA. Pure striking, GSP is not top 3 WW
I believe he scored take downs against all of theese guys and deliverd a major amount of damage to Serra Penn and Alves on the ground. But yes he did absolutly clown Alves and KOS standing
He STILL outstruck them. Duh.
Go watch GSP's fights it is clear you are utterly biased and don't even remember reality.

We just havent seen GSP's pure striking ability since Serra took his head off.
I used to have trouble finishing too. Probably had to do with the copious amounts of cheap whiskey I drank. Now I think of Arianny Celeste naked spanking Gina Carrano, and I'm good to go.

I like hearing this from GSP... however we have heard similar things in the past... Lets hope we can see the old "rush"
He changed after the Serra loss... His safer fighting style gives him the best chance of winning... He could really give it to his opponents in all areas, he is that good, but the more openings you go for, the more openings you create on your self...
Sometimes fighting safe=fight smart...
However I do see room for him to atleast open up a little bit... anything you do can be potentially dangerous... He just needs to "go for it" like he said.

I give Carlos a better chance against GSP than Diaz... based on Carlos having more power behind his strikes.... While Diaz would need to soften GSP up first, and by the time he actually had GSP flustered he would be on his back... Carlos has the ability to end it at any time, weather it be kicks, knees, punches etc....
However both of them have Very Poor TDD (for the top level of the WW division) Diaz and Condit both are up at the top as far as striking and bjj go at WW, but have a glaring hole in the wrestling department... they wouldnt even get shots if they had to go through Fitch, Shields, Kos, Hendricks, Askren, etc.
Carlos is very dangerous to GSP or anyone at WW... He could outpoint anyone at WW striking, but he wont be able to employ that gameplan when he is on his back...
Carlos best bet is to land a big shot or to pull of a submission... particularly in transition, once he inevitably gets taken down, catching GSP off guard... GSP is one of the best in that area as well, so it is easier said than done.
Another thing worth mention is how wrestling plays into a fighters standup game... Having good takedowns always keeps your opponents on edge and looking for you to shoot on them... opening a lot for your striking.
GSP has the best double in the game... so quick and explosive... that is by far his biggest weapon... his opponents know that... Allowing GSP to be more successful with his standup.

GSP is also really good at catching kicks and taking them down off of that... but in boxing the jab is the most important punch and show me fights that people have used a jab as well as GSP did vs Kos II... im pretty sure boxing that clean would mean he has a deeper well to pull from...
but this fight should bring out the best in GSP (i hope).. he hasnt fought anyone with the tenacity of Condit so well see what that does to his gameplan... i just really want this fight to happen now
