Last I heard from him, they were working on scheduling a fight with Siyar Bahadurzada. I think we're just waiting for them to make the official announcement.

Both Alves and Siyar were victims of the recent injury string.
Alves was originaly supose to fight Akiyama at 149, then Akiyama got injured and replaced with Siyar. Then Alves got injured so Chris Clements filled in against Siyar...Then Siyar got injured, and was replaced by Matt Riddle.
Alves/Akiyama turned into Clements/Riddle pretty quick, it was easy to miss. Im a big fan of Thiago as well and cant wait to see him back in the cage.
Alves Tko Rd1

Alves Tko Rd1 | Right, I'm aware of that giant clusterfuck of a matchup. I heard this much more recently that the two were going to fight. There was something on Siyar's Twitter about it just a few days ago

Damn injuries~!
Is it worth it? To train that hard? Maybe coming in the fight with less injuries is worth more than training so hard you come in to the fight banged up or have to cancel the fight.

Alves on Siyar: Quote: |
"At this point, especially after UFC 151 was canceled, I'll fight anyone. I was hoping to fight later this year, but since UFC canceled an event I guess I'll only fight in January now. If it works out, in Brazil. It would be great to shut (Siyar) up, but I fight whoever Joe Silva pairs me up with. I have to fight someone. He's nothing compared to the level of competition I'm used to. I'm fighting in the UFC for almost seven years and I have never had an easy fight. He's very cocky and I love fighting people who talk too much. It motivates me and brings out my best. I guess... No, I know he got pretty lucky against Paulo Thiago. If they fought again it would be totally different. I guess Paulo Thiago lost a lot of weight for that fight and couldn't rehydrate correctly, so when he got punched in the heat, Thiago went down. And when your brain is dehydrated, any punch that is landed on your head can turn you off."
| Siyar on Alves: Quote: |
"Alves was trying to duck me, but I went after him on Twitter. Now his feelings are hurt and wants to shut me up? I had to go after him on Twitter to make this fight happen for the fans. He didn't want to fight me, according to insiders. And yes, I'll turn him into a poodle! Just wait and see the interesting transition from a pitbull into a poodle during the fight. And if he thinks beating Paulo Thiago was luck... Tell him to come spar with me at Blackzilians in his city, it'll change his mind and even his intentions of fighting me. I'll predict the same 'luck' against the poodle as against Paulo Thiago. With all due respect to Paulo Thiago, who is a classy fighter and actually didn't try to duck me and took the fight, unlike Alves."

Aiming for an early 2013 return.....A match-up against Siyar, which he is apparently more than willing to oblige to, would prove to be an entertaining stand-up affair, given their preference to keep it on the feet, and has "Fight of the Night' written all over it

Not heavily related but...this is the main reason I am against same day weigh-ins.
As for this fight I am looking forward to it, Alves I don't believe is as good as he used to be however this fight is one of those fights that I'll be looking forward to watching a slobberknocker. Don't really care who wins this either.
