Nate Diaz tries to fight fictional character Renato Laranja
Quote:
Unfortunately for one half of the dispute, Laranja is fictional - a “crude and arrogant character claiming to be a 27-time world champion who makes outlandish remarks and criticisms about current Brazilian Jiujitsu practitioners and MMA fighters.”
Laranja is actually played by the actor Rhasaan Orange (most famous for a role in Days of our Lives) and while Orange does train under Eddie Bravo, he is nowhere near being a 27-time black belt champion. The Laranja character started as an in-joke at Eddie Bravo’s gym but quickly went viral and grew a cult following on YouTube and other MMA fan websites.
Now, none of this is known to the ultra-serious Nate Diaz and so when Laranja and he were booked at an Expo event earlier this year and Laranja started doing his usual Brazilian macho shtick, Diaz was at first nonplussed. Then, he was incensed. And so he tried to start a fight. With a fictional character. At the same time, the actor playing the fictional character can clearly be seen rapidly reassessing the artistic merit of his current line of work.
I would like to know Nate's response when he found out. Or did he find out? Or was he told but he still doesn't understand? At any rate, I think the guy is hilarious.
Yet another example of something we all should have learned on the playground:
There's certain things you can't say to certain people....even if you're joking.
It may seem toolish to many people and I'm no Nate supporter but I definitely think there's a fine-line you walk when you talk shit in gest to a guy who beats people up for sport, employment and likely recreation.
