Ronda Rousey vs. Cris "Cyborg" Santos Close to Becoming a Reality? | MMAWeekly.com

There are a lot of fights that could happen in the world of women’s MMA, but none would be bigger than Strikeforce champion Ronda Rousey taking on former champ Cris “Cyborg” Santos.

The two fighters have had nothing but bad words for each other over the last year, and after Rousey’s last win over Sarah Kaufman she immediately called out the Brazilian to make the move down to 135lbs and face her in the cage.

Unfortunately, Santos has stated time and again that she can’t make the move down to 135lbs for health reasons, and Rousey doesn’t seem to want to budge on the issue.

Well, now it appears UFC President Dana White might be intervening in the situation after spending some time speaking to Rousey over the last few days while the two were both in Minnesota ahead of UFC on FX 5.

Santos won’t be eligible to compete again until at least after Dec 17, 2012 when her suspension is up after testing positive for banned substances stemming from her last fight in Strikeforce.

At that time the only fight on the horizon seems to be a bout against Rousey, in what could be the biggest bout in women’s MMA history.

Rousey’s options aren’t quite as limited with former Olympic silver medalist Sara McMann making her Strikeforce debut against Liz Carmouche in November, and she could potentially face the winner of that fight next instead.

Still, a match-up against Cyborg would be the biggest fight for Rousey in terms of exposure and fan interest, but now it’s just a matter of making it happen.
