UFC on FX 5 medical suspensions: Danny Castillo suspended indefinitely | MMAjunkie.com

Quote:
The Minnesota Office of Combative Sports issued mandatory medical suspensions to seven fighters from this past weekend's UFC on FX 5 event.

MMAjunkie.com (UFC blog for UFC news, UFC rumors, fighter interviews and event previews/recaps | MMAjunkie.com) today confirmed the list with the regulatory body.

Danny Castillo, who suffered a knockout loss to Michael Johnson in a back-and-forth preliminary-card bout, received the only indefinite suspension.

UFC on FX 5 took place Oct. 5 at Minneapolis' Target Center. The main card aired on FX following prelims on FUEL TV.

In the headliner, Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva pounced on his injured opponent and knocked out Travis Browne in the opening round of their heavyweight bout. Browne received a 30-day suspension for precautionary reasons, but following a doctor's visit, he said he expects a two- to four-month recovery period due to a torn ligament in his left leg.

The full list of UFC on FX 5 suspensions included:

Quote:
* Travis Browne: suspended 30 days with no contact during training for 14 days for precautionary reasons
* Jay Hieron: suspended 30 days with no contact during training for 14 days due to a laceration
* Jussier Formiga: suspended 30 days with no contact during training for 14 days for precautionary reasons
* Danny Castillo: suspended indefinitely until cleared by a neurological exam; regardless, suspended 60 days with no contact during training for 45 days for precautionary reasons
* Diego Nunes: suspended 45 days with no contact during training for 30 days due to a laceration
* Bart Palaszewski: suspended 45 days with no contact during training for 30 days due to a laceration
* Aaron Simpson: suspended 60 days with no contact during training for 45 days for precautionary reasons
As is customary in Minnesota, all other fighters received a mandatory seven-day rest period.

Travis Browne only gets a 30 day suspension? That can't be right.

Yeah, thanks. I got that. I just find it odd that they only give him 30 days if they know about a torn ligament. Shouldn't they extend the suspension? To me that says "you can fight after 30 days but you really shouldn't" not "dont fight for the next 2-4 months"
