Glover Teixeira wants to make two things perfectly clear.
One, he never called out UFC light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones and instead simply was answering a question about the possibility of fighting him, however unlikely it might be.
But two, if the UFC offers up the opportunity for some reason, he'll take it with the confidence he'll be the UFC's new 205-pound champion.
But first up for Teixeira (18-2 MMA, 1-0 UFC) is a fight with fellow Brazilian light heavyweight Fabio Maldonado (18-5 MMA, 1-2 UFC). They meet on Saturday's UFC 153 pay-per-view main card, which follows prelims on FX and Facebook from HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro.
Teixeira recently made a long-awaited and successful promotional debut with a submission win over Kyle Kingsbury at UFC 146. It marked his 16th consecutive victory going back to a WEC stint in 2006. Fifteen of the 16 wins have come via stoppage, 13 in the first round.
As fans eagerly discuss what could be next for dominant champ Jones, Teixeira's name often gets thrown into the mix. The 32-year-old believes such talk is premature, but he's not going to shy away from expressing his opinion on the matter.
"I didn't challenge Jon Jones," he told MMAjunkie.com (UFC blog for UFC news, UFC rumors, fighter interviews and event previews/recaps | MMAjunkie.com). "But they asked if I'm ready to fight Jon Jones, and I said yeah. If they call me to fight Jon Jones, I'm ready to fight anyone in the UFC. I'll go, and I'm confident I'm going to that title because that's what I have to think.
"But it's no rush in getting the title. I feel kind of bad for saying something like that (about Jones). I have one fight in the UFC, and I cannot challenge for the title. But if they ask me, yeah, I'm ready to go."
Initially, Teixeira was slated to co-headline UFC 153 opposite Quinton "Rampage" Jackson. It was just the type of big-name opponent – with the right type of fight style – to turn some heads and get his name deeper into title talk. But Jackson, a former champ who's recently clashed with UFC management, ultimately scratched from the card due to an injury.
Some have suggested that fighters such as Jackson are scared to fight Teixeira, a man without a ton of name recognition but one who possesses the skills to knock out just about anybody. Teixeira scoffs at the notion.
"He had to go to the doctor and send a note, so I'm pretty sure he hurt something," Teixeira said. "'Rampage,' he fought everyone. I don't see a reason for him to duck me or anything.
"I wanted to fight 'Rampage.' He's got the name and his style. I would have really liked to fight him, but we've got to deal with a lot of things in this sport, so I thank Fabio for taking it."

He's always classy; I'm glad Glover is in the news. Realistically, he's getting much more press than Goose, so one ranked fight and I think he'll generate enough buzz to be in title contention.

Its only normal for a fighter to be confident, if you don't have the desire or confidence to be number one. Why fight ?

All 3 of them have KTFO of Chuck.
None of them got in the cage with Glover...Coincidence?

Rampage was signed and preparing to fight Glover... but got injured... Had to pull out..
He even said he would still be interested in fighting him...
He also looked to be in shape, judging his appearance on the MMA hour... He wasnt too big.
