This should be Alvarez's last fight on his contract with Bellator right? If so, I would not be surprised if monday there is an announcement that he has just been signed by ZUFFA/UFC

I could be mistaken here, but I think there's a certain number of days Eddie has to wait before he can sign outright with ZUFFA without allowing Bellator the right to match the offer. Pretty sure that's what took so long for Lombard to debut with the UFC because BFC had the right to match, which could've technically kept him with BFC

Eddie's a stud and is only getting better by training with Imperial Athletics, big fan of his and a really nice guy too.

My mind likes to ignore words, so I thought the thread title said Bellator 76 RESULTS. Been planning on watching it all week, and I keep forgetting to set my DVR. I jumped out of my chair to quickly grab my remote (hoping to either catch the last bit of the main event or a replay), and then realized it's Thursday. Crisis averted.

Yup last fight. He said on Inside MMA, on Monday, that it's something like a 3 month or so process, between his contract ending, exclusive negotiations, and then right to match. Bellator's certainly not going to let him go easily, or cheaply.

Really? 3 months? That's crazy. I thought it's was only 30 days. I couldn't imagine someone telling me I wasn't allowed to work for three months.

Alvarez discusses looming free agency - Mixed Martial Arts News

Quote:

“I thought the pressure would be a lot greater than what it is, to be honest,” Alvarez told ESPN.com. “I’ve had zero distractions. The only thing I have to do all day is train and that creates a very dangerous person.

“I have nothing but complete confidence. [The contract situation] doesn’t make me fearful, it doesn’t make me nervous. The training I’ve done in the past month kind of, you know, gives me a secret smile. I’m not worrying about this or that, I’m thinking, ‘Wait until you guys see what’s about to happen on Friday.’”

“Popularity has nothing to do with talent or skill,” Alvarez said. “Regardless of where I go -- if I’m fighting in some obscure country where no one sees me -- my skill will always follow me. Just for me to know that I can beat any lightweight in the world is good enough.

“For me, it’s about going and fighting where I can make the best living that I can for me and my family. Wherever that is, that’s where I’ll go.”

As much as I'd hate see him go to the dying promotion that is Strikeforce, I'd pay good money to see him fight Melendez.
