| Dana White says Fabio Maldonado will not be released following UFC 153 loss Dana White says Fabio Maldonado will not be released following UFC 153 loss Quote:
Despite suffering his third-straight UFC loss, Fabio Maldonado (18-6 MMA, 1-3 UFC) will fight again in the octagon.
At Saturday night's post-UFC 153 press conference, UFC President Dana White said the 32-year-old Brazilian will not be released from his contract.
"If we cut that guy, we deserve to be beat with a stick," White said.
Maldonado faced fast-rising light heavyweight contender and fellow Brazilian Glover Teixeira (19-2 MMA, 2-0 UFC) on the pay-per-view main card of Saturday's UFC 153 event at Rio de Janeiro's HSBC Arena. The action turned out to be one-sided, as Teixeira landed a total of 117 strikes to Maldonado's 14, according to a FightMetric report. Add in three successful takedowns for Teixeira, and you have a fight that veteran judge Doug Crosby scored 20-16 through two rounds.
Maldonado was dazed and rattled and bloodied and bruised, but he never stopped trying to compete. He bucked and rolled on the floor, and he tried to fire countershots in the pocket when he was on his feet. When a cageside physician came into the cage to inspect a cut in the second round, Maldonado insisted the fight carry on.
It was halted at the end of the second round when Maldonado stumbled and swayed on the way back to his corner and the doctor decided it was not safe for him to continue.

I am officially on the Fabio Maldonado band club. What heart. What determination. When he rocked Glover with that left hook I almost went crazy. That guy is tough!
Glover looked bad fucking ass. I can't wait to see his next fight.

Glover looked on another level completely besides that one Lefthook, which probably made every person watching react.
But just because Glover wrecked your face doesnt mean you should be cut, Imo he put up more of a fight then Rampage would of.
Maldonado vs anyone with a striking base would make for a good fight. Im excited to see this guy fight again and hes just fought last night and isnt even a top 20Lhw lol, Thats good for him.

Yeah I think he's saved from a cut this time, but he's definitely on the chopping block for the next one. I would like to see Maldonado fight Bonner. That would be a FOTN candidate for sure!

dana will probably talk him to go down to middleweight where he belongs.
